It's such a good thing we have a fiscally responsible governor who is keeping the special interests at bay and making California a much more hospitable state to live in for all of its residents.

21. Aha, you're in El Cajon. Local voters approved it, you know.
"The increases, approved by voters in the last election, will fund programs at the city or county level for police, fire, public safety, hospitals, transportations, and other general purposes.

Some tax increases apply to an entire county, some apply only within certain cities, and some are extensions of taxes currently in place."

14. Hi, WI_DEM!
I grew up in California, and moved to Kansas 26 years ago. I remember with CA state tax was 4%.
:hi:

Damn, I'm planning a trip out there this summer. Hope this increase doesn't increase my travel expenses too much...

6. He's doing the neo-con thing of penalizing the poor to
give tax breaks to the rich. So much for his "moderate" Republican campaign promises. When he falls from grace I hope it's with a loud resounding crash that no one will forget, especially the creeps who helped him become Governor.

7. The 8.25% is for the entire state
counties and cities have always been able to tack on their own percentages to the basic sales tax. No doubt in areas where the taxes are currently above 7.75% the increase will still be the same one half percent.

Sigh. The poor getting the shaft again. Another day in the Empire.

24. Not on food here in Mass,or clothing, unless it is a single clothing
item that cost $200.00 or more, which of course I avoid..

There is a meals tax if you eat out or do take out,but not on food bought at groceries.

California seems to be in terrible shape.

10. Source?
The state Board of Equalization has posted a new by-city table effective April 1, but there's no mention of the overall statewide base rate going up.

12. Do you have a link?
Because right now the base state sales tax is 7.25%. Some individual counties and cities tack on their own percentages that can bring t5hat up (for instance its 7.75% in San Diego) but its 8.25% in Los Angeles county and 8.75% in Alameda.

22. I do my company's BOE as well.
As of Dec 2004, every single county in CA is at a minimum of 7.25%.

BTW, I absolutely depise the system for BOE in CA. Some counties we sell in get the grand total of $1 in taxes once I've rounded up. It seems like there should be a minimum or something.

Ventura Co.'s been at 7.25% anyway, so I skimmed right over the announcement of the permanent change. :P

27. No big deal....
The state is insane when it comes to sales tax so getting the rates wrong even for someone who works with the system is not uncommon.
