Pope may need feeding tube, reports say
Pope may need feeding tube, reports say
Associated Press
March 29, 2005

VATICAN CITY -- Pope John Paul II may have to return to the hospital to have a feeding tube inserted, an Italian news agency reported today. It stressed that no decision had been made.

The APcom news agency, citing an unidentified source, said the 84-year-old pope might have to have the tube inserted to improve his nutrition since he is having difficulty swallowing with the breathing tube that was inserted Feb. 24.

APcom said the idea of inserting a feeding tube was a hypothesis that was being considered. The procedure involves inserting a tube into the stomach to allow for artificial feeding.

28. God has a sense of Humor
there can be no other explanation. Now imagine this, the pope, who will not retire, nor will the college of bishops let him retire, will end up being our Pope so long as he lives on feeding tube. Not even a wave from the window.

5. Careful now, we could be moving from "withheld" to "withdraw" status...
...should it be determined that the Pope's condition is beyond hope and life-support systems be disconnected!

Tom DeLay's reasoning:
"Withheld" = :)
"Withdraw" = :(

9. Here's real irony for you
What happens to the Catholic Church should the Pope slip into a PVS and be unable to fulfill his duties as a Pope, but yet also be unable to step down as the Pope?

16. ((WARNING: THE FOLLOWING IS IN VERY BAD TASTE))
Perhaps we can look forward to future pronouncements from the Vatican like:

"GAAAAAHHH HAAAAAAA GAAAAAHHH" - Today, the Pope proclaimed, according to his attending cardinals, that God does indeed hate gays. Or God has gas. Or something like that.

19. We are non-practicing Catholics
We moved away from the Catholic church when it defended/moved the molesters. We still believe in our faith, at home, privately. We also are not rigid Catholic followers.

In our faith (both cradle Catholics) we were taught that NO heroic measures should be taken. When it was our time and God called us home, we were to answer and take leave of this Earth.

Neither of us (DH and I) believe Pope John Paul is what is best for our faith. We hope that someone with "younger" views will replace him. When a Pope is no longer able to fulfill his duties (as is evidently clear right now), he should be removed/replaced.

We also believe the trachea tube is a heroic measure (the Faithful say no) and that a feeding tube is the ULTIMATE no-no.

Just my Catholic .02

but my hope is that he does not end up in a PVS. I would hate to see what would happen to the College of Cardinals should such a thing happen.
