News: ANOTHER Boy Scout official busted on kiddie porn!

DALLAS, TEXAS - A former high-ranking Boy Scouts of America official has been charged with possession and distribution of child pornography.

Douglas Sovereign Smith Jr., 61, who as program director coordinated scouting programs with schools and churches, was accused of receiving images over the Internet in February of children engaging in oral sex, intercourse and other sexually explicit conduct. The charges were filed by federal prosecutors March 21.

"We're shocked and dismayed to learn of this," said Gregg Shields, national spokesman for the Boy Scouts, based in the Dallas suburb of Irving. "Smith was employed by the Boy Scouts for 39 years and we had no indication of prior criminal activity."...

Smith, reached Tuesday at his home in Colleyville, near Fort Worth, referred all questions to his attorney, Jack Strickland, who said: "He's not taking this well. I've got to tell you, this is a good man and I would hate to see the entirety of his life and the good things he's done defined by one incident."

My 11-yr-old son is very aware of the reason that he is not a Boy Scout, and he gets it. They are hypocrites, panderers and ethical scum.

They are anti-gay, yet like clockwork one of these stories erupts every three years or so with some church-going, good-guy wacko being exposed as a sexual pervert. There's nothing perverted about being gay, assholes. Child porn, however, IS perverted!

There's reality, and then there's the BSA.

Does anybody know if it's ALWAYS been this way with the Boy Scouts, or if this is a fairly recent phenomenon? Are you saying they've been lying, hypocritical, ultra-rightwing scumbugs for ALL THESE YEARS? I'm not being sarcastic here, because I really want to know. WASHINGTON (CNN) -- The Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that the Boy Scouts of America can bar homosexuals from being troop leaders. The justices by a 5-4 vote overturned a New Jersey Supreme Court ruling that the dismissal of a gay Scout leader had been illegal under the state's anti-discrimination law.

The Boy Scouts, which also exclude atheists and agnostics as leaders, said it has the right to decide who can join its ranks.Forcing it to accept gays would violate its constitutional right of freedom of association and free speech under the First Amendment, it said.
 

Chief Justice William Rehnquist agreed. He said for the court majority that applying a state public accommodations law to require the Boy Scouts to admit a gay troop leader violates the group's constitutional right of expressive association. He added, however, "We are not, as we must not be, guided by our views of whether the Boy Scouts' teaching with respect to homosexual conduct are right or wrong."


Rehnquist's opinion was joined by Justices Sandra Day O'Connor, Antonin Scalia, Anthony M. Kennedy and Clarence Thomas. Dissenting were Justices John Paul Stevens, David H. Souter, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen G. Breyer.
