Ethics Question - Schiavo Case may bolster Nationalized Healthcare
My question is this, if the religious right and the GOP are fundamentally against removing sustenance from a woman in a PSV state because they view it as murder...then could this logic be applied to any individual who does not have health insurance that is denied treatment due to lack of payment?

So when the youngster with leukemia has no insurance because mom and dad are just a bit over the poverty line, is it murder if the state lets that child die because he was born without a silver spoon?

An ear infection left untreated can lead to death....an infected tooth can kill.... so witholding the necessary treatment for these individuals who can't pay would be a potential attempted murder by that logic???

1. Logically, yes.
The application would seem obvious, wouldn't it?

Unfortunately, these people don't operate using logic -- so don't expect them to support universal health care.

5. Excuse me, but you're waiting for logic from illogical people...
these people actually believe that Mrs. Schiavo is cognesent of what is happening to her.

Don't you think that they would have thought "Oh wow, if God had wanted her to live then he wouldn't have made her a vegetable in the first place!"

Religion is a means to justify illogical madness.

6. It can also be used as a hammer.....
See that case where the 6 month old boy was taken off life support despite his mothers appeals.

Cost was the issue. I also think the Netherlands is dealing with this in some ethics studies(because they have both euthanasia and national healthcare).

7. That form of "murder" occurs every single day.
Americans die every single day due to inadequate healthcare,...for sure.

8. Did the GOP open any legal avenues or set any precedents...
For those who cannot afford quality health care (more as each BushCo. year goes by) in their religious preaching and political grandstanding?

In their rush to preach and grandstand, could they have missed closing a door and screwed themselves?

9. They may have but I think more importantly this case may force
the masses to confront the hypocrisy of the GOP....which would be more damning as more individuals and their families go without necessary healthcare...
