Malloy just totally DISSED NYT's Dowd |
|
Edited on Tue Mar-29-05 11:33 PM by Tamyrlin79
He read her column last week that decided that we were living in a theocracy. And Malloy had a "No Shit, Sherlock" moment. Then castigated her for her articles slamming Clinton and Gore (particularly Gore in 2000), and ended with (paraphrased) "So next time you want to complain about theocracy...consider your own part in it."
At least Dowd seems to have seen the Light, though... Better late than never.

...Lately she's been on our side, but she still seems a bit...ditzy, I guess.

2. She is imbedded in the state structure |

and is constantly indoctrinated by it. She is unable to be objective, a fact for which she certainly should be critisized for, but it is understandable and unlike so many of the horrible people who make up the institutions of wealth and power in this country, she does earnestly mean to be a good liberal.

Mo Dowd is about Mo Dowd. Period.
She reminds me of Tweety in the sense that sometimes she writes something that seems to support our side, but she will then turn around and write something that undercuts the liberal stance or liberal leaders.

and whether it was to gain women voters. Ummm... It was winter in New Hampshire. Duh. So, yeah, Malloy is correct - she picks on Dems for banal issues and smears them and then wonders why we're living in a theocracy? :eyes: hoooo-boy

|
Edited on Tue Mar-29-05 11:48 PM by FreepFryer
Malloy's catchphrases of late center around how hopeless and lost we are. I'd rather read a columnist with a few interesting insider observations than listen to Malloy essentially suck all the hope out of the room each time.
Seriously - I'm not trying to be contrary, but have you ever listened to a Malloy show and felt hopeful and motivated?

12. He's given up on the DNC leadership - with good reason. |
|
Ennabling the Fascist Neo-Cons to destroy the constitution and sign on to the Orwellian fake war of terror...
I think Mike has a point.
It's time for a new progressive movement - independent of the Corporate-mobbed up Dems so prevalent today.
In short - The Revolution Starts Now.
Mike's an old man - he's just speaking the truth and desperately trying to light a fire under the disaffected Dems and Progressives who are the future - surely, pointing out the truth about "The Best Democracy Money Can Buy" is valuable in and of its self.
His activist days are ebbing - he's a spokesman for us truth seekers - but it's up to US to change the world.

with a few likewise depressed listeners, followed by angry naysaying of an optimistic listener.
Imho, his opinions of the DNC aside, he needs to find ways to inspire truth seeking by progressives rather than disinspire it with his 'aging activist' negativism.
Good post, btw.

If you are going to motivate revolution, you have to find a way to connect and inspire change.
Malloy doesn't do that - he just riles people up without clear avenues for their anger. There's little difference between him doing that and Rush Limbaugh doing that... in both cases entertainment wins over substantive change.

Right now, he hasn't motivated his listeners the way he could, if he had anything more to say than "we're doomed and you people have to fix it".

Absolutely no sense in bringing up all that past stuff other than to stroke off his listeners with his two minutes hate. No sense at all.
Did I happen to mention I think his show is full of shit?

17. I think malloy is just as desperate and frustrated as we all are. |
|
Can you blame him for letting it show?
Personally, I don't like the "well, its useless" tack malloy has, but his insights into things are usually dead on. And just because he's a cynical pessimist, doesn't mean he's wrong. I think of listening to malloy as a way of exorcising my own desperation and frustration...giving it an outlet, so to speak.

What fine turn of phrase she can invent, how she can impress herself by going to trendy places, meet trendy people and mix trivia with a little bit of serious stuff. Her whole shtick was to get the "woman's point of view" across to NYT readers. As if in War and Peace there is a difference.
Malloy is being entirely too charitable to a worthless egotist.

Although I can't recall the title of the Op-Ed in question, I can still remember with disblief Dowd's pointless mocking of Al Gore's bald spot, and that all the Rogaine in the world won't help. My reaction was "and...? What does this have to do with Gore's qualification against Bush in 2000?"
*sigh*
