Powell is all over the AOL welcome screen saying
Edited on Wed Mar-30-05 01:23 PM by senseandsensibility
he is angry because he was misled about the WMD's. Is everyone just gonna let him get away with this? He's not taking the fall. He's blaming someone else ( I refuse to go to the article).

You don't even have to have a long memory to remember that HE is the one that sold the WMD fable to the UN. He sold his reputation to do so. Even the liberal columnists began falling all over the need to invade after their precious Powell made that statement to the UN. Without him, there may not have been an invasion.

And now...HE'S angry? No one's angry at him? :grr: :argh:

1. It's time for him to come clean
Confess that he was taken to the cleaners by the PNAC crew and pressured by Bush, Rice, Rummy et al to LIE to the American people.

I think he knew his case for war was bogus and, as a military man it's his duty to be sure about these things.

'Fess up, Colin. It's time.

2. I'm angry
I'm angry. He knew he was being mislead. I don't doubt it for a second. He was involved and for whatever reason decided to leave. I think they had intended for him to leave to make room for Rice. Maybe they fired him but publicially he was stepping down and that's why he's "angry."

4. I thought Colin kept advising against war until he got a Direct Order,
and being a "good soldier" he had to follow orders. Remember, he was the one who brought up the Pottery Barn rule.

Maybe that was an actor dressed up to look like Colin Powell and they had the real Colin tied up in the Pentagon cellar to prevent him from rushing to the U.N and exposing the lies of the neocons. Yeah, that's it. The real Colin Powell was struggling heroically against his bonds while THIS TREACHEROUS BASTARD was lying his ass off in front of the U.N....

8. Powell was on the board of AOL
He had a seat on the board of directors of AOL for some time. I assume his connections to AOL are still strong. Perhaps they've allowed him to rehabilitate himself there.

11. Link to Powell's statement
I think this link will work even if you're not an AOL member:

http://aolsvc.news.aol.com/news/article.adp?id=20050330061509990015&ncid=NWS00010000000001

It reports an interview with the German magazine Stern. Powell does indeed try to blame the underlings: "It was information from our security services and from some Europeans, including Germans." He says that he and Bush "are friends".

When I saw the headline I was hopeful that he was blowing the whistle on the deliberate deception. Unfortunately, he's still following the party line that there were innocent failures of intelligence.

13. It worked for me as a non-subscriber.
I had tried AOL.com, but got nothing more than a subscription pitch. Thanks. I always had a bit of respect for him, although I was aware of his apparachik activities in VN. This is of course relative, as compared to the rest of that gang, including dominatrix Rice. I think there's a very good possibility that he'll distance himself from that gang even more emphatically.

"I particularly condemn the way our political leaders supplied the manpower for that war . The policies determining who would be drafted and who would be deferred, who would serve and who would escape, who would die and who would live, were an anti-democratic disgrace.... I am angry that so many sons of the powerful and well-placed ... managed to wangle slots in Reserve and National Guard units. Of the many tragedies of Vietnam, this raw class discrimination strikes me as the most damaging to the ideal that all Americans are created equal and owe equal allegiance to our country."

16. WHAT????
He's trying to blame this on the Germans? You fucking ASSWIPE!! Now I really hate him. And to think how many people used to say they would vote for him if he ran for President.

But I'm sure I'll be called a racist for saying that since it appears no one can criticize black men here today. :eyes:

18. Der sanfte Krieger
Can anyone translate?

Colin Powell

Der sanfte Krieger
Michael Streck

"Old Europe".

much more.....

15. Instead of sending him to the lynch mob, let's hear what he has to say
Yes, I'm angry about what he did when he went to the UN and basically lied through his ass. But I've always figured that he was lied to about the status of the WMD's including the potential that he was giving false documents about the status of the WMDs.

Instead of vilifying him, let's hear what he has to say because he may be the catalyst to help bring the truth to light - that the Bush regime lied about why we need to go to War and 1500+ American Soldiers plus 10s of thousands of Iraqi Civilians are dead because of this horrible mistake.

17. His speech at the UN was based on the information by "Curveball"
the Iraqi that was living in a refugee camp in Germany. According to the wmd report that is to come out high ud government officials never warned lawmakers and Powell himself that "Curveballs" info was bullshit. According to the report it was the germans that warned the high government officials that "Curveball" was not reliable.
