4. lol
I love that line, although I don't know exactly what it means. But I, too, am a lapsed catholic and quite devoted to it.

I am in the same club. Though I am shooting higher
I want to be excomunicated so I can be in the same league with Martin Luther and Tycho Brahe.

22. Maybe an effect of salt air. I'm out here by Ocean Beach in SF
a 'hood populated by Catholics, lapsing Catholics and the rest of us used to be new Easter hat Catholics.

In my Latin American family, we call the Pope "El Papa" so, it really does feel like a family member is passing.

And here I sit, unconfessed!

26. "I don't believe in God, but Mary is His mother"
Not sure where I heard it, but it's (supposedly) a classic.

9. I don't know. Maybe there has been too much death around me
this past two weeks but this is poignant and even though I don't agree with him in nearly anything, I feel for his suffering. I guess I am just tired of people dying.

11. It's understandable
The news has been filled with waiting for Terri Schiavo to pass and then the Pope's illnesses. Right now the news seems to be filled with nothing but death.

10. I suspect there is more concern with attending to him
than the need to tell the world his exact condition. We will know in time.

12. they denied both the septic shock and the heart failure earlier...
By now I believe both are confirmed. It is probably safe to assume it is indeed true he is in a coma.

14. The fact that he is still in the apartment rather than a hospital
is the most telling peace of information.

18. From a report I read in Reuters
he said that he didn't want to go back to the hospital for treatment. Sounds like he has excepted that it is his time to go.

24. Not necessarily...
Over the past few months/years, the Vatican has pretty much equipped the Papal Apartments as a high-quality mini-hospital. It is said that there are two Intensive Care physicians in attendance at all times.

I can't really think of any reason why transporting JPII to a regular hospital would make medical sense. It would probably only be done if he needed major surgery, which is not called for in the case of his specific illness.

given his age and existing health issues. It killed my mother a few months back, who was also 84 and of Polish descent.

There is two on the Pope's current condition, one on the Schiavo debate, and another on Britney Spears being pissed off over pregnancy rumours.

23. Vatican reports that the coma report is rubbish
They say that the Pope just had a private mass that he is weak but lucid. Though they also say that he is ebbing away.

Just curious. I was born in 55, and as well as I can remember, this pope has been the closest to ordinary people.
