Fox chief Roger Ailes "zings" CNN, calls CNN Int. "anti-American"
NY Daily News, "Lowdown" column, Lloyd Grove:

Ailes delivers pretty tough news update

Yesterday, the razor-tongued Fox News chairman - whose network is the ratings king of cable news - sliced and diced his competitors at a breakfast hosted by Syracuse University's Newhouse School of Public Communications and The New Yorker magazine.

When New Yorker writer Ken Auletta asked Ailes if he envies anything about second-place CNN, Ailes shot back: "No!" But then he reflected: "They get better press. I keep reading about Jonathan Klein, and he's got 50 great stories about what they're doing there - one of which is, he thinks there's not enough liberals in the newsroom; they need more progressives. God, I hope he believes that!"

As for ratings-challenged MSNBC, Ailes quipped: "They've hired every blond that doesn't work for us. And it's not working."

Ailes - who in a former life was a brass-knuckled Republican media strategist - defended his recent comment that CNN International is "the anti-American channel."...

Chairman Roger claimed that CNN's global outlet regularly accentuates the negative about the United States. "The one thing I know about America is, there are a hell of a lot of people trying to get in, and nobody's trying to get out," Ailes said. "In fact, if you can find somebody trying to get out, I'll do a story on him - because that's a hell of a story."...

2. The only truth Ailes has ever spoken
As for ratings-challenged MSNBC, Ailes quipped: "They've hired every blond that doesn't work for us. And it's not working."

8. I find that to be an extremely offensive comment
and its speaks to the mindset behind Fox.

9. You're right -- Ailes is admitting Fox's babe-based reportage...
and making an offensive comment at the same time.

10. That's the point I was trying
to make.....

Fox has raised "babe reporting" to an art form and MSNBC isv trying to copy them....

it's disgusting by Fox and even worse that MSNBC is trying to emulate them.

4. So what's his point???
If we are here we should just shut up and watch our country slide into stupidity?

Of course people don't want to leave. This is my country and I will continue to speak out - because the last time I checked we still had a First Ammendment. Congress hasn't erased that one yet.

5. Well...
Well, I guess if you don't have the waving American flag banner graphics or the flag lapel pins for all their news casters then you can't be a good American, huh?

7. He's right. CNN is unamerican. They don't do the stuff
the media is supposed to do. They are a mouthpiece for corporate interests and not doing a service to the public that lets them use the airwaves. See Roger's right...but the Fox is even worse than CNN.

11. 68% of Fox News reports push opinions on viewers; CNN 4%
He's trying to cover his ass after the nonpartisan Project For Excellence in Journalism just released their report "The State of the News Media 2005." Seems that Fox News did well when it came to sourcing their reports, BUT the study cited Fox News as "measurably more one-sided than other news networks." A full 68% of Fox News stories were laden with reporter's opinions compared to only 4% for CNN. MSNBC reports carried opinions 27% of the time. So it seems Fox will report a story, they just tell their viewers how they should think about it. But then, we knew that...

13. Ailes is an ignorant, neofascist, liar.
He claims no one is trying to "get out" and that he would do stories. Why then doesn't Faux cover the people who have gone to Canada to escape being cannon fodder for the Chimperor?

That is a hell of a story. But it won't be told by the corporate media, and Faux especially.
