Cable coverage of the Pope |
|
First of all, I am catholic but I am resenting their coverage on the TV. I feel like I am being intruded upon, they are taking up my space. There is the feeling this is being used by the RW. I just can't explain it but the coverage is beginning to make me sick. So, if the pope lives 20 twenty days, are they going to continue this coverage. It is almost like they can hardly wait for him to die, and this makes me angry. I really don't care what their idiots believe, I have my beliefs and that is what counts.

1. They're just expecting an official announcement of his death at sunrise |
|
It's a sordid affair. The media jumped the gun before the Vatican made it official so the Vatican will make the announcement in their own time and the media is just wonked out.

2. I'm getting that vibe too - "I'm tired - when is he going to die?" |
|
Like it's such an INCONVENIENCE for them to have to keep dragging every priest and commentator they can dredge up to interview on the subject. I also feel they're seizing on his "conservatism" and "moralism" and will be using that endlessly. It's very disturbing.

3. I can remember the same happening at the death of previous |
|
Popes and I have been through 3 not including the present one and this coverage happened at a time when there really was a media that reported the news and didn't subvert it. Going back to when we only had CBC where I lived, it was covered just as exhaustively, I am assuming the same happened in the US but I could be wrong.
Having been through it when there were few alternatives, I am grateful for VCRs, DVD players and the net which allow me to escape the non-stop coverage if needed.

6. We didn't have the same kind of media the last time a pope died |
|
No cable news, no ownership by defense contractors and no WMD story to ignore.
I'm trying to figure out if they'll continue 24 hour Vatican coverage all the way through the conclave or if they'll skip out of Rome and find a new deathwatch. Maybe they'll find some poor soul whose family is about to disconnect their respirator and make that the next issue.
