The privelaged in this country whine a lot
Edited on Sat Apr-02-05 01:17 PM by fujiyama
and this includes many on DU.

In the last several days, I've seen so many threads whining about immigrants stealing jobs, it's making me sick.

And I think it's clearly indicitive that racism, xenophobia, and nativism isn't simply part of the right.

Now, this isn't to say that illegal immigration isn't a problem and it should be discussed, but wow, I was amazed to see posts blaming the immigrants themselves for coming here. I've seen people say "let's go Buchanan on this". Build that fence, Fortress America! Hell, why don't we just shoot anyone at the border, regardless of their age - men, women, children, old people? Yeaa Haaa! Well, there we go - there were those posts supporting vigilante groups as well.

Let's lay the blame where it belongs - with the corporations and wealthy people that profit from the exploitation of illegal aliens. Why not join together with legal immigrants to find a sane immigration policy? Is it because they are non white?

Oh but it gets better, A very small minority of Christians on DU have begun whining about "not feeling welcome" in the party. What utter complete nonsense. This is a liberal site and liberals tend to be less likely to believe in religion. Most posts aren't targetted toward Christianity in particular, but religion in general. Christians must realize that in the rest of society (aside from DU) non Christians do face much more prejudice than Christians, so I find the whining very silly. White Christians control, what 90% of wealth in this society? No, Christians are not being persecuted and claiming they are is repeating LimpBalls nonsense.

2. Feel free
But blame those responsible - not some person in India tryin to make a better life, but the corporation that views short term profits as more important.

6. Exactly.
The weak job creation report in the face of outrageous corporate profits confirm that.

7. And
"...but the corporation that views short term profits as more important." ... And the politicians that empower those corporations out of greed.

3. Sounds like some need a reality check
I'm a Christian, and I feel at home here. Much more so then on the old CSPAN forums, where pseudo-Christians got booted regularly for hate speech.

It's up to people to take back their own values from those that scream the loudest.

As for white male privilege being somewhat less in later years, it is sad to see those whining that they only start out with a 3 point lead in life rather than a 10 point lead.

I have noticed that bigotry against minorities and women has been gaining ground again, as well. Perhaps it is a natural reaction to fear. There is a lot to fear lately.

Don't give up on people.

8. Me too!
and you are right on the mark. It seems to be an American right of passage to whine about EVERYTHING! I just had a discussion with my son providing him the answer to the big picture in life. When you have a family that you know would provide you with ANYTHING you asked of them if it was in their power to give you, you have the ONLY thing in this world that matters. I gave him several examples of what he has within his own extended family that MANY others no longer have and he suddenly realized with great force how lucky he was. The realization was so powerful it brought him to tears. He is a VERY special kid, and he has been raised by a VERY loving extended family. I asked him why he was crying and his answer to me was that he was crying because he felt sorry for all the people he knew that didn't realize that! He is 11 years old, but he KNOWS the true "meaning of life!"

11. Can I ask why you thought this needed to be deleted?
I think it is quite true that Americans have become whiners of the highest order!
