Hospice staff doc's parents refused to believe her assessment
Routine returns a sense of calm

By STEPHEN NOHLGREN, St. Petersburg Times Staff Writer

<snip>

For the first time in five years Friday, life at Hospice House Woodside went on without Terri Schindler Schiavo.

<snip>

"If anything, I fear that when people need us, they will think of hospice as those signs, those statements, instead of the compassion and dignity and we will not have people dying well in our community because of something they saw on TV," Labyak said. "That would be the ultimate tragedy."

Dr. Theresa Buck, the staff physician, understands the danger. Her own mother and step-mother refused to believe her assessment of Schiavo's condition because of what they saw on television.

"They said she is talking and asking for things," Buck said. "I had dinner with them Wednesday night and couldn't convince them that's not true. And I'm here every day."

2. That's so incredibly sad.
The brainwashing in this country cannot have a "good" end, it's simply too insideous.

The fact that those assholes on the idiot boxes have convinced people of something so NOT true is depressing.

I had some co-workers talking near my office about how Terri was talking and was obviously coherant. Hell I almost expected them to say that she could breakdance...

Jane Burnham and her mother, Betty, say Michael Schiavo stopped by to say goodbye the day his wife died. Burnham said protesters often yelled at her during her daily visits to her mother.

edit to add - OH.MY.GOD.
"It's been very hard watching a circus outside and be there with her while she was dying," said Susan Agines, a senior nursing supervisor. "I think what finally did it was when the juggler came. To me it was ... awful."

Geezzzz, I guess I missed the juggler.

7. I saw the headline on Yahoo news, "Juggler said God told him to come"
I never clicked on the link. I feared if I did, I would lose what is left of my sanity.

4. In-credible.
That's how the righties get away with everything. All you have to do is find someone who is willing to lie to the TV cameras. Distraught parents who want it to be true, or religious crusaders who see the greater good in a lie---and suddenly the lies become the accepted fact.

5. Perhaps....
when more than two people gather to protest outside one of these types of places and their protest interferes with the day to day operation at that center to the point where the police have to be called in on OT to keep the crowd in line or the center then has to screen each and every visitor, that they should have to register for a permit to protest and to list the names, churches, organizations taking part in the protest.

Then we will see just how committed these folks are, or if they're just there for their own glory, trying to get on TV or other selfish motivations. Let them put their money where their mouth is.

6. Some WON"T leave....damn people...........
Students at Cross Bayou Elementary School, which is just down the street from the hospice, attended classes in other locations. Students will remain at those locations Monday, but will return Tuesday to Cross Bayou, principal Marcia Stone said.

also..............hey began taking down the orange plastic fence that had separated the protesters from everyone else.

And then, just like that, the protesters returned. They drifted down the sidewalk holding wooden crosses and pushing baby strollers. They set up their chairs and tables once again on the crushed brown grass. By 11 a.m., 90 people had gathered in front of a makeshift altar for a Mass.

"We get to say when we're done," said Lisa Wilson, 48, a protester from Topeka, Kan., who had gone to get some breakfast when her signs were removed, "and we're not done."

10. The hospice needs to say when they're done
which means to call the cops, charge them with trespassing and disturbing the peace, and following through to make sure those charges stick and the jerks are fined.

21. Strange
Don't they know she's not there anymore and that none of her family is? These people truly are nuts. Why don't they protest the war? Oh yeah. They're for that. :eyes: Hypocrites.

9. One can only hope that karma...
will kick all these miserable fucks in the ass. I hope they will one day have to account for the peace they've stolen from so many lives because of their selfish, senseless actions. It is despicable what these goons did. And that goes for the lying POS media, too. And that goes for Mrs. Schiavo's parents, whom I have absolutely no sympathy for any more. Millions of parents have watched their children die, and many in Iraq have seen their children blown to pieces. The Schindler's aren't the only parents in the world who've had to make the tough decision of letting go. They've turned their tragedy into a national travesty and have hurt so many people. Fuck the Schindlers and the soulless, conscienceless leeches greedily sucking off of the body of Mrs. Schiavo.

visiting family members murderers? Damn them to hell for adding to the pain of those families.

15. So the two old biddies would rather believe some tabloid
media hacks than their own daughter, who actually has credentials.
What a wacky world we live in.
