Edwards on Daily Show tonight

According to the ABC Note, Edwards will be on with Jon Stewart tonight. Edwards promised to announce his candidacy on the show last time he was on.

I love that he is sticking to his word. What will Jon Stewart think of this? Will he ask him why?

3. remember when Kucinich was on?

Jon asked him about buddies on the campaign trail & DK said Edwards was a buddy? Then Jon said we'll have 2 have him on. Wonder if they will all end up on the Daily Show @ some point?

5. I really hope so!

I've been dying to see Dean on there for a while. Though, I'm not sure if he could convince Lieberman to come on after all his bashing. Especially his "Lieberman is for people who don't think Bush is jewish enough" remark.

Don't know when, in regards to after which insult, LOL, but he certainly was on.

MB, Graham, Dean, and Kerry are the ones who haven't been on. And Clark, obviously, if he's running. Sharpton was scheduled to be on once (it was funny, he couldn't make it and Stephen Colbert was "Al Sharpton"), and did make an appearance after.

I think Clark will be on (it's a hunch, he went on Bill Maher's show), I'm sure it's a matter of scheduling.

6. I thought Kucinich seemed akward on the DS interview

Something about him seemed uncomfortable. It probably had to do with the fact that Jon Stewart isn't like the average interviewer that Kucinich was used to. He warmed up after a while, though. But the first few minutes were odd.
I would like to see Kucinich on the Daily Show again, because I think he would be better a second time around.

7. I love Kucininich but feel sorry for him as well.

He comes off really uncomfortable at times. His "Are you ready to rock and roll?" line at the Steak Fry made me grimmace. It was like Bill Gates trying to be Mick Jagger.

I like the guys politics, and his words, but his delivery needs work.

8. Kucinich is endearing when he's like that

But then again, that's just me. False bravado and boisterous confidence bug me.

Kucinich, when gentle and not so inflamed, is articulate and reeking of honesty. I really like the guy, and I thought he came across beautifully on the Daily Show. Having candidates relax and let their hair down is a good thing; it shows what they're really like. The truth is that no matter how polished and perfect one is, the presidency is such a gruelling daily marathon that one will be generally stripped of pretense for most of the time. It's good to find some true character.

Stewart's a great interviewer, too: smart, loopy and respectful.

I thought Kucinich was fabulous on that show, but bear in mind: my tastes are a little screwy. Many people like powerhouse super-polished types for their leaders; many of the rest of us don't.

10. Don't get me wrong

I thought he was very sincere.

But I don't think his appearance would have helped him win anyone that wasn't already backing him.

I think if he came on again he would have more confidence, and would do very well.

13. No sweat

I didn't think you were questioning his character or sincerity at all; sorry if I gave that impression. My point was that, for me, the somewhat clunky is often a really good thing. Assholes don't let themselves get clunky; they purse their lips and affect false propriety or fake relaxation with false laughter or something like that.

There's not just a credibility gap with politicians beginning to dawn on many of the general populace, there's a decency gap. Those who get a bit flustered or silly or awkward are, to me, endearing. When Edwards protested (last Tuesday) with his somewhat geeky overbite smile about having to follow Sharpton's rhetorical flourishes, it was funny. When he couldn't stop laughing at one point, it was real. I like all that.

I like the sort of secure avuncular relaxation of Graham; others may not, but I guarantee you that many do. He's got the face of reliability and decency. People are scared now, and much as they crave safety and bluster, they also want something real.

No aspersions meant; I just offer a different perspective.

15. It wouldn't directly win anyone over

But it got the Kucinich fans talking and enthusiastic for awhile, and the talk about kucinich is a sort of good publicity that could convert some people.

On topic, Stewart is disgustingly intelligent and I could see most of the candidates stopping by before this thing is over.

and I'd like Stewart to run for something.

16. He's very bright--I've been meaning to buy his book....

Stewart was 3rd in his high school class, has a psychology degree from William and Mary, and he's no dummy.

From time to time I think of buying his book, but I always forget. Just wrote it down. I don't think it's to do with politics though. He has another one coming out, too.

11. You'll note how they were relating at the steak fry

Edwards and Kuchinch were on the platform making jokes and putting their arms around each other; they were both somewhat awkward, but they're real. Harkin's party--at least from what I could tell on C-span--was a genuinely nice experience.
