The Big Dog is going to Rome!
According to the Roman daily, La Repubbica Shrubya will be accompanied by Poppy and the Big Dog himself.

"Gli americani. Il primo a dirsi pronto ad arrivare in piazza San Pietro è stato il presidente americano George W. Bush, che già ieri aveva confidato ai suoi collaboratori l'intenzione di voler partecipare ai funerali. Al capo della Casa Bianca dovrebbero aggiungersi due ex presidenti: il padre, George Bush senior, e Bill Clinton."

The Americans. The first to say he would arrive in piazza San Pietro was the American president George W. Bush, who yesterday confided to his colleagues his intention to particpate in the funeral. The head of the White House will be accompanied by two ex-presidents: his father, George Bush senior, and Bill Clinton.

I would have posted this in LBN, but the title of the article has no mention of Clinton.

1. Can't he bring his own entourage?
Instead of being a part of the Bushes'? Ugh.

2. I guess Bush the Frat Boy needed some credibility . . .
. . . so he's taking Clinton.

And Bush the Preppy may not have been one of our truly great presidents, but at least no one questions that he won an election.

12. Ha, that reminds me of the SNL opening skit last night with Big Dog,
HW and W all doing a press conference with Clinton re-stating everything Bushie says so it is coherent and intelligent - showing what an idiot Bush is and how good Clinton was at being Prez.

It was a repeat but I missed it the first time.

3. Why does the Bush Cabal need Clinton to put the masses at ease?
Why can't the Bush Gang face people on their own, without Bill Clinton's integrity and protection from rioting protesters?

4. Could the Shrubs stay home and let Clinton represent the U.S.?
I feel so embarrassed every time * opens his mouth, it's especially bad when he does so in the international arena...

7. Why not President Carter?
It was under his admin that John Paul II became Pope.

(of course, I'm sure it's in retaliation for Carter's opposition to the Iraq War...)

11. The pope opposed the war.
John-Paul opposed abortion, the death penalty, the iraq war, communism, and its evil twin unrestrained capitalism. He was consistent.

I'm not sure that the bush administration could do anything to stop Jimmy Carter from attending the funeral. It certainly would be embarassing of they tried to do so.

Maybe Jimmy reads DU?

8. ah...so the Bush family needs cover
If Clinton is with them then the crowds won't mind Shrub being around...is that the thinking?

I got news for them, Clinton by their sides for any reason in no way makes them appealing to me.

I'll keep my other thoughts to myself...

way, maybe the crowds won't boo them.

W is such a big fat baby! He needs his Daddy and Clinton to hold his hand. I am surprised he didn't ask his Mommy to go with him! Maybe he did, but his advisers told him it wouldn't look good.

14. How nice of Bill Clinton to agree to accompany the world's dumbest
terrorist to the Pope's funeral. He's become such a good friend of the family. We should all be so lucky to have a friend willing to help cover for us in what could have been such a thoroughly horrible experience as the Italians pitching a bitch over the commander in thief of the army that killed on of the top intelligence officials showing up for the funeral of a man who told him not to frigging invade.

The irony just slays me.

16. I think I still have a tape with footage of JP II and Clinton.
Early in the Clinton presidency, the two men met, and I recall that the pope, who already was facing health problems, took the president's arm as they walked together. To this day I find that extremely moving. Both men were able to convey warmth, no doubt about it, and whatever their differences, I'm sure there was value to their relationship.

17. This is HORRIBLE that the Shrubs are bringing him to MAKE THEM LOOK GOOD
This is the most RIDICULOUS move I've seen from the Stupid Shrubs. They're making him go to make themselves look good and I fault President Clinton for agreeing.
