Hillary remains at #1, Anthrax still boosted by bulk orders
http://www.nytimes.com/2003/07/20/books/bestseller/0720besthardnonfiction.html

(+) after Mannthrax indicated bulk ordering, meaning someone or some company is buying them in mass quantities and giving them away at your local trailor park or flea market.

GO HILLARY! 1 full month at #1!

1. When's Tucker gonna eat his shoe?
If the little shit backs down from his promise, I'm going to send him a nasty letter.
So c'mon Tucker, when are you going to eat it?
I love it- it's soo sweet to see Tucker squirm. This should really make him squirm

2. All of the rightwing authors have bulk orders!
This is so pathetic! Rush used to do the same thing, buy copies of his books by bulk to "freep" himself into the bestselling list. I am glad that people are getting wise to this trick.

Coulter's book has been panned by even some Republicans. For a few dollars more you can get yourself Hillary's book, a better book by someone that is sane!

TREASON, by Ann Coulter. (Crown Forum, $26.95.) The lawyer and pundit dissects "liberal treachery from the cold war to the war on terrorism." (+)

DERELICTION OF DUTY, by Robert (Buzz) Patterson. (Regnery, $27.95.) A retired Air Force colonel who served in the White House contends that Bill Clinton "compromised America's national security." (+)

OFF WITH THEIR HEADS, by Dick Morris. (ReganBooks/HarperCollins, $24.95.) The television analyst condemns what he describes as a campaign by politicians, cultural figures and the news media "to oppose and impede the war on terror." (+)

A dagger (+) indicates that some bookstores report receiving bulk orders.

7. That Racist Horowitz, of All People
Coulter's book has been panned by even some Republicans.

Horowitz blasted it on his website, apparently. Got the Freeps all up in arms.

For a few dollars more you can get yourself Hillary's book, a better book by someone that is sane!

Hee! I love it. "By someone that is sane!"

12. Do you notice that all the wing nut books are attack the left books
You never see a wing nut write a book speaking about how great conservatism is. They only write about how bad Clinton is and how bad the left is.

I think they are all written by ghost writters. They really aren't worth the paper they are printed on. They are in the same class as the bull shit newspapers you see at grocery store check out stands.

People who buy the wing nut books are in my opinion ignorant self lothing types. They need these types of books to bolster their hate filled thinking.

I also think that these "books" by right wingers began as a part of the VRWC. They are used for the purpose of perpetuating the mass of stupid idiots who back anything Bush does even though it really stabs them in the back.

17. I've heard that Regnery press (for one) buys their own books in bulk
to donate them to libraries. Regnery is one of the wing-nut publishers. It makes the sales look much better than they actually are.

9. E-mail this to 20 friends!!!!
Edited on Sun Jul-13-03 07:23 AM by wndycty
This is an e-mail that I sent to 20 friends. Please cut and paste it and send it to 20 people. Remember if information stays on the DU then we are not getting word out. Please send this!

======================

I wanted to share this. I would like to lay out the strategy used by conservatives to make sure that their books make best seller lists. I have cut and pasted entries to this weeks New York Times Best Sellers List. The 4 entries are “Living History” (#1) written by Hillary Clinton and 3 titles (#2, #9, #13) authored by conservatives, all 3 of which attack Democrats/liberals. Now if you look closely at each of the 3 conservative books you will notice a (+) which indicates bulk orders, often times from conservative think tanks, local Republican organizations, Websites, et al., all of whom attempt to resell the book. You will notice Hillary’s book is not followed by a (+). As a matter of fact the only 3 books on this week’s list that carry the (+) are the three conservative books. I bet if looked back on previous lists you will find the same trend on books written by Hannity, O’Reilly, etc.

Now the evidence:

Hardcover Nonfiction
This Week Best Sellers

1 LIVING HISTORY, by Hillary Rodham Clinton. (Simon & Schuster, $28.) A memoir by the junior senator from New York and former first lady.

2 TREASON, by Ann Coulter. (Crown Forum, $26.95.) The lawyer and pundit dissects "liberal treachery from the cold war to the war on terrorism." (+)

9 DERELICTION OF DUTY, by Robert (Buzz) Patterson. (Regnery, $27.95.) A retired Air Force colonel who served in the White House contends that Bill Clinton "compromised America's national security." (+)

13 OFF WITH THEIR HEADS, by Dick Morris. (ReganBooks/HarperCollins, $24.95.) The television analyst condemns what he describes as a campaign by politicians, cultural figures and the news media "to oppose and impede the war on terror." (+)

Rankings reflect sales, for the week ending July 5, at almost 4,000 bookstores plus wholesalers serving 50,000 other retailers (gift shops, department stores, newsstands, supermarkets), statistically weighted to represent all such outlets nationwide. An asterisk (*) indicates that a book's sales are barely distinguishable from those of the book above. A dagger (+) indicates that some bookstores report receiving bulk orders.

10. Hillary deeply discounted at a local bookstore here in Dayton
Book & Co (owned by a southern chain), has really marked down Hills book...20%...+ 10% if you have a discount card.

They sort of have a stack of her books over near the best sellers.

Anne Coulter, Mike Savage, and the rest of the rightys have their own displays in the politics section.

I guess Hillary isnt selling too good here in Dayton, which makes sense as this is a fairly conservative area.

13. I left Dayton for that reason
Edited on Sun Jul-13-03 07:41 AM by Mountainman
I'm presuming you are talking about Dayton, Ohio. I left in 1982 and moved to Los Angeles. I got real tired of the attempts by my family and peers pressuring me to conform to their social norms.

I moved and never looked back. I love living in California the land of fruits and nuts!

16. yes Dayton, OH, and no-I'm not a native.
I agree w. you about the conformism. Its actually worse here than down in Kentucky (Louisville and Lexington), where I used to live for many years.

Odd, that.

14. Just and FYI
Often times retailers discount the book in its earlier weeks. I know that most Barnes & Nobles as well as Borders offered her at 30% from day one. I think that is standard operating procedure for big releases.

19. Yes if you notice, pay attention to the music industry. . .
When CD's are just released they are real affordable, especially at high volume retailers like Target, Best Buy and Circuit City. The record companies and in this case publishers, cut deals with high volume retailers and wholesalers designed to impact book/CD/DVD sales in ways that will get them ranked. I bet your book store is part of a high volume chain, however I have noticed a lot of smaller stores selling books deeply discounted in early weeks as well. They need to, to compete.
