With a nod to nostamj, please tell us about a great political cartoonist
My choice would have to be the Swedish-born cartoonist Ann Telnaes, whom I consider one of the best caricaturist in the business, as well as it's most spot-on commentator.

Her awards include the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning, the 2003 Maggie Award (from Planned Parenthood) for Editorial Cartoons, and the 2003 National Press Foundation's Berryman Award.

Some recent work:

So, who is your favorite cartoonist, and please give examples of their work. :) :hi:

3. Steve Bell of Guardian

He just gets to the heart of the issues. His caricatures are just so dead-on as they reflect the souls of the figures he lampoons.

8. Bill DeOre, Dallas Morning News victim of lay offs.
http://www.liberty-news.com/showCartoons.php?artist=Bill+DeOre&src=h2856

I confess, I don't know how to copy a toon to here. Maybe someone can help me.

Bill has been around for at least the last 20 years and is wonderful.

Dallas Morning News has laid him off, I didn't even know because I've been boycotting DMN for several years now.

Bill DeOre among Dallas paper layoffs

By Dave Astor
NEW YORK Longtime editorial cartoonist Bill DeOre was reportedly among the staffers laid off October 27 by The Dallas Morning News for cost-cutting reasons.
DeOre, who joined the Texas paper in 1977, could not be reached immediately for comment at his home phone number. But a Morning News staffer answering DeOre’s former office phone confirmed that the cartoonist had been laid off.
The Universal Press Syndicate-distributed DeOre also appears in about 30 other newspapers. Universal Director of Communications Kathie Kerr said the syndicate’s contract is with DeOre rather than the Morning News. So DeOre might continue drawing cartoons for Universal.
DeOre joins a growing number of editorial cartoonists who lost their jobs in recent years because of layoffs, disputes over content, and other reasons. And a number of papers haven’t replaced cartoonists who died, retired, or left for other jobs.
Milt Priggee, former cartoonist for The Spokesman-Review in Spokane, Wash., recently created an animated cartoon about these job losses. Priggee plans to update the cartoon, meaning DeOre’s name will soon be added.

9. Use the right click of the mouse and then go to "Copy Image Location"
Then paste it on here.

I put the space between Iraq. and gif. If the space is taken away, it will automatically show up as a picture.

11. Thank you.
Welcome, rather belatedly to DU. Most grateful for your help. In my search on google I found out he is another victim of the mismanagement of the Dallas Morning News.

I'm very sad and angry right now.

Another good friend was fired several years ago.

Look him up on google.

Jackson Thoreau.

Once again, Thank you for helping me this early Saturday am.

12. Tom Toles, and also the late Walt Kelly
Since people have already mentioned most of my faves ... Toles used to draw for the Buffalo paper, but is now featured in the Washington Post ...

He started calling attention to ozone depletion and global warming a long time before many journalists picked up on the issues, too.

Walt Kelly was the creator of "Pogo" -- I sure would love to know what he'd make of the present situation.
