Kentwood is a beautiful town. True, it is a suburb in conservative West Michigan, but given the sense of community I feel around here, you probably wouldn't know it, and I don't think you would care.
That sense of community is a reason why I was very saddened to hear that the American identified in the blast in Cairo was from Kentwood, as were three of the eighteen injured.

Maybe he was what we would call a fundamentalist Christian, or maybe not. I don't know, and quite frankly I don't care. I don't ever recall meeting him, though my brother might have known his brother Eric when they were on East Kentwood's track team.
What I do know is that I am saddened that this tragedy that seemed to occur thousands of miles away has hit so close to home.
I would ask that those of you who are inclined please send good vibes, prayers, etc., to the Mirandette, Ross, and Kiel families.
