Top Republican Guru Marries Gay Partner In Massachussetts
You couldn't make this shit up. This guy is responsible for many homophobes in elected office.

From Drudge and, apparently, tomorrow's NYT:

Arthur Finkelstein, prominent Republican consultant who has directed a series of hard-edged political campaigns to elect conservatives in the U.S. and Israel over the past 30 years, said Friday that he had married his male partner in civil ceremony at home in Mass... MORE... Finkelstein said in a brief interview that he had married his partner of 40 years to ensure couple had same benefits available to married heterosexual couples... Developing, NYT, say newsroom sources,,,

3. Finkelstein is a political whore, like all the other rethugs
He's gay, and yet he works for anti-gay candidates. He's also Jewish, but that didn't stop him from working with Lee Atwater in a nasty 1978 South Carolina Congressional race in which voters were constantly reminded that the Democratic candidate was Jewish.

Arthur Finkelstein
From SourceWatch

Arthur Finkelstein is a political consultants/spin doctor working primarily for New York governor George Pataki, and the New York Republican Party. Although Finkelstein is a secretive character, Berkowitz lists some of his background:

Finkelstein has had a long and colorful political career that has seen him work with some of the most reactionary politicians both at home and abroad. He runs Arthur J. Finkelstein & Associates, and during his thirty-year career he has worked for President Reagan and President Nixon. In addition to spearheading the then-little-known Pataki's 1994 victory over Mario Cuomo, he was also a top adviser to Alfonse D'Amato and Jesse Helms during their Senate careers. But he hasn't always led his clients to victory -- in 1996 he was a major, if well-hidden, consultant to Senator Bob Dole's losing presidential campaign.

In addition, Finkelstein was also an early director of Terry Dolan's groundbreaking political operation, the National Conservative Political Action Committee (NCPAC).

Finkelstein is an international player as well. According to AP's Humbert, “Finkelstein has been increasingly active is Israeli politics. He helped Benjamin Netanyahu during his 1996 campaign for prime minister and he is an adviser to the current Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon.”

And, you can add one more element to Finkelstein's reality; he is gay, yet he's worked for a gaggle of gay-bashing Republican Senators including Lauch Faircloth (R-N.C.), Jesse Helms (R-N.C), Don Nickles (R-Okla.) and Sen. (Bob) Smith (R-New Hampshire), all of whom voted against legislation banning discrimination against gays while Finkelstein was working for them.

Finkelstein is also Jewish, but that didn't stop him from using anti-Semitism during a 1978 South Carolina congressional race between Republican Carroll Campbell and Democrat Max Heller. (http://www.dissidentvoice.org/Feb05/Berkowitz0217.htm)

25. This is nothing new . . . Arthur Finkelstein is gay. It's well-known.

.
This is nothing new . . . Arthur Finkelstein is gay. It's well-known. He's been allegedly in a long-standing homosexual relationship for many years. He has two adopted kids within that relationship. He resides in Massachusetts. What is *new* is that Finkelstein allegedly married his gay partner.

All that being said does not obviate the fact that Arthur Finkelstein is an unscrupulous hypocrite working for politicians who bash and demonize gays. As such, he's scum. Pure unadulterated scum. However, this, too, is not unique in today's politics. Low-lifes, scum, and people with no character or morals, such as Finkelstein, abound in the so-called neocon political bent.

28. There's a word for guys like this...
KAPO

KAPO: Term used in the Nazi concentration camps for a prisoner chosen by the SS to head a work gang made up of other prisoners. Often chosen from the criminal element, the Kapos were treated better and, more often than not, brutalized other prisoners.

Bill Clinton Bashes Man Behind 'Stop Hillary' Push

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Former President Bill Clinton took aim on Monday at a powerful political opponent of his wife Sen. Hillary Clinton, saying a surge of "Stop Hillary" efforts "can't stop her." Clinton called one of the leaders of the movement, New York powerbroker Arthur Finkelstein "sad," after reports over the weekend that the Republican consultant married his gay lover. "Either this guy believes his party is not serious and is totally Machiavellian in his position or there's some sort of self-loathing there," Clinton said. "I was more sad for him.

The New York Times reported on Saturday that Finkelstein, who has worked to elect strongly conservative Republican politicians, married his male partner in a civil ceremony in Massachusetts in December. The Republican Party opposes same-sex marriages. Hillary Clinton, a Democrat from New York, faces re-election next year, and many believe she will make a run for the U.S. presidency in 2008. Clinton added that he wasn't worried about the "Stop Hillary" campaign, which includes direct mail and Internet-based fund-raising efforts.

Republicans say Finkelstein, a long-time ally of New York's Republican Gov. George Pataki, is a key force behind the "Stop Her Now" anti-Clinton campaign and moving behind the scenes to help raise money. Finkelstein rarely speaks to the press. The former president said his wife has worked hard as senator, especially in strongly Republican areas in upstate and western New York. "She's been great and he can't stop her," Clinton said.

Clinton made his remarks at his New York office where he announced his foundation was donating $10 million toward treating children with AIDS in rural Africa.
