Seeing Bush at the Pope's funeral today I was struck by the thought that
no matter where he is or whatever circumstances are present, the expression on his face is NEVER appropriate! Ever noticed????......Today for instance, rather than an expression of respect and or dignity most of the other world leaders had, he had an expression of not feeling comfortable (probably because he wasn't the centre of attention!)....He just never has the right look!

2. Younger
I have a 5-year-old and he was more solemn on this occasion than Bush.
He certain has a better vocabulary and a more appropriate response mechanism, that's for sure.

3. I had the same thought.
Its like he just farted and was trying not to look like the guilty one.

5. Incapable of empathy is the root of it. He simply cannot/will not try to
understand how others feel. Therefore he can never behave in an appropriate manner. And he knows he has some inadequacy, it makes him uncomfortable, but he is so inept at human emotions that he doesn't even have a clue what is missing in him. He just knows he doesn't get it and so he has to be arrogant and bellicose to try and hide it. He gets goofy when he wants the cool kids to like him.

should have his eyes closed while praying. He just looks like he isn't paying attention and certainly doesn't look reverent...but he does manage to look like an thoughtless idiot.

6. It's because he's a
sociopath. He doesn't know how to relate to people or feel anything close to compassion.

7. I don't think he ever has a clue
what is going on. I do not think he ever thinks about anything except what he wants to think about and none of it has to do with anything around him. He is totally uninterested in anything or anyone and is incapable of acting appropriately because of that.

10. this is closest to the truth
He can only show interest in others when they have something he wants.

The rewards for state funerals are too abstract, diffuse, and intangible for him to care about, but he knows there would be some cost to not going.

So he is irritated.

8. I think he's conflicted on ethics and morality...
and until he resolves these issues (which I'm inclined to believe is an impossibility) he will continue to demonstrate inappropriate behavior and actions. I often wonder what Carl Jung would have to say about Bush*, I'm pretty sure what Sigmund Freud would say.

9. He was picked because he is an empty vessel
when he signed up for this i dont think his pickers thought he's really have to go anywhere important, i mean he's been to europe but it's always on whirlwind tours, like 5 hours in each country. He is clueless and devoid of intelligence so of course he doesn't know how to conduct himself on these occasions. Bush would would like to spend his time on his photo-op ranch chainsawing things or maybe go to the job of his true calling-propane sales or to quote Ty Webb, he'd be a good fire watcher.

11. He's probably just amazed at how big the Catholic following is
He is thinking about switching to being Catholic. Think of how many more religious people he could turn into fanatics.

17. This retired social worker believes that he is a total narcissist..
who is unable to empathize with others.

I disagree that * is a sociopath because ... the sociopaths that I met when I was a therapist-intern, and then a social worker, were MUCH more clever than * could ever hope to be. They could put an act like no one else.

*'s behavior is just dumb and completely inappropriate.
