What Event Will Define the American Zeitgeist of This Time?

Will the first decade of the new century be defined by the ascension of Leo Strauss’ dictums, “lie to the people for they cannot understand the truth?” Is this an age where liars abound and are followed willingly by the cheering and admiring crowd. It is age where words cease to have meaning, where the unscrupulous offer definitions that fit the situation. Truth becomes causality upon the killing field of raw naked power.

At some distant point in the future, will age be looked back on as the time when a small virulent group of theocrats finally stepped from behind the curtain to announce their intention to control every aspect of civil society? Is it the time when theocrats are finally within a breath of succeeding in establishing their total dominance?

Perhaps it will be that the time is discussed and talked about in terms of destruction of the middle and working class. Is this not the time when wealth is building the finally motes and walls around itself without pretension of ethics through the unbridled buying of power?

Will the defining moment be a unjust war that was entered into supported by the lies of politicians and the fear of the people? Perhaps the cavalier disregard for responsibility by the ruling class. Is the spirit of the time the fact that when criminal mistakes were made they could be passed off with a shrug or a smirk, a time when no one in power was held accountable for anything.

Is the history of this time the full flowering of the megalith of conservative power, a time when four decades of work brought froth the means by which the powerful and the elites could realize their rights to dominance over the middle and working class.

It may well be that the times will be looked upon as that moment when the shabby dream of freedom was finally laid to rest upon the marble steps of the Supreme Court. A time when the mob cried save us to those who would strip their rights and bind the chains of slavery.

Of course what may well define this age will be that this will be the time when the rape of the earth completed. When resources needed to sustain cease to exist.

As the ending of the first half of this decade draws close, it is there will be a clamor by the pundits to define the meaning of this decade…….

Could the phrase in which the age is spoken be: The people enjoyed the circus on the way to their hanging.

The comments will be things like "the date that changed everything"...."a defining moment in American history"...."the day that the US started to remake the world".

BS of that kind, no mention of how the neocons started changing the world for the worse or how those horrific events played right into their hands so they could foist the damnable PNAC plan on us.
