I just watched COMING HOME for the first time yesterday on dvd.
COMING HOME is the 1978 film that starred Jon Voight, Jane Fonda and Bruce Dern and is about veterans returning home from the Vietnam war.
Today I am watching debate regarding supplemental funds for the Veterans Administration.
The Dems want 2 billion added for emergency funding to assist returning combat veterans.
The Repubs are denying that there is an emergency need for these men and women.
I worked with combat vets returned from Vietnam who were suffering from PTSD, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Regardless of ones political persuasion, PTSD is a motherfucker. It fucks with a persons psyche whether awake or asleep.
It is unrelenting. Dealing with it sooner rather than later is key to minimizing its destructive nature.
War is some ugly shit.....unspeakable for most yet speaking of it is the cure. A dose of emergency services early on is a no brainer for those in the know.
To ignore the effects of war on a combatants psyche is the same as letting an infection fester. Slow but sure for some of the toughest GI's and jar heads.
They are voting now as I type. I can see the writing on the wall.

4. War destroys anyone who fights
even if their bodies come back without harm.

It's high time we redefine the US military and how it is to be used. Sending our children out to be destroyed in the name of corporate greed is not an option, nor should it ever have been.
