Even in San Francisco, we have a few misogynistic, homophobic "leaders".

SAN FRANCISCO
Supes' president rakes builders' chief
Board resolution condemns remarks about woman, gays

Charlie Goodyear, Chronicle Staff Writer

Wednesday, April 13, 2005

The head of a politically powerful San Francisco developers association was accused of making misogynistic and homophobic remarks in a resolution introduced Tuesday by the president of the city's Board of Supervisors.

The resolution seeks to condemn comments that Joe O'Donoghue, president of the Residential Builders Association, and members of his group made last week at a hearing on a possible change in leadership at the city's Department of Building Inspection. The comments were critical of Amy Lee -- the department's assistant director and Mayor Gavin Newsom's pick to lead the department -- and sought to portray her as unqualified for the job because she is five months pregnant.

One speaker argued in favor of keeping acting Director James Hutchinson, a 20-year veteran of the department, in his post, adding, "Are you going to replace this man with pregnancy brain?"

{EDIT}

Peskin's motion also seeks to condemn a poem penned in February by O'Donoghue, who has often turned to verse to tweak his perceived enemies, including The Chronicle. The poem was critical of Newsom and sought to play on gossip about the mayor's sexuality following his support of same-sex marriage.

At one point O'Donoghue's poem asks, "The question now on everyone's lips, From what the glass you amorously sip? Are you or are you not? And if so, for whom are you hot?"

3. I cannot stand that fucker....
I've watched him for years in his battles with the various Boards and he is so ridiculously out of step here in SF. He's like a Mafia don. He has a long history of making threats against Supervisors or Board members who dare go against his "build on every square inch of SF" policy. And it's been long known that the building groups he represents were havens for wanted IRA members who had fled Ireland back in the day.
