Did the CIA proof-read President Clinton's speeches? |
|
We all know how President Clinton felt about the text of his speeches. He was always tinkering with the words. Writing, and re-writing again, and again. He would remove text, and add new text, right up to the time of the speech. Sometimes he would drive his aides nuts by tossing out an entire speech, and re-writing the whole thing just before he was to give the speech. Contrast this with Bush's speech writing habits. Apparently, his staff uses sources such as Rush Limbaugh, Matt Drudge, Tony Snow, and Bill O'Reilly for the text of their speech. Then it apparently becomes somebody else's job to decide if the speech is truthful or not. They're too busy writing to check the facts. How does that right wing chant go? Thou shalt take personal responsibility for thy actions?

1. For the very reasons you state |

the CIA would have gone nuts trying to vet Clinton's speeches. However, IMHO, the need just wasn't usually there. He never, AFAIK, tryed to pull off something of the enomous proportions as the * administration did.
Personal responsibility? "That statement is no longer operative."* (*If you're too young to remember, that's what Nixon's press secretary said towards the end of the eventual meltdown.)

2. I've never heard anything about |

anyone checking Clinton's speeches. I think he was well aware of intelligence reports and what was happening in the world and the country. I don't think he needed anyone to check them. He was the final authority. I can't imagine him just accepting what others wrote for him. No way.

intelligence reports just aren't as interesting as "the hungry, hungry caterpillar". It's pretty much a given that "*" doesn't actually read these things, he's given 'briefs' (lied to by the neocons) and then makes his decision by whatever means he sees fit; dart board, rock, paper, scissors, coin flip etc. Georgie really is a very dumb boy.
