All of the King's men and mice......
King of Crooks
April 15, 2005 · Tom DeLay has never pretended to be anything other than a nakedly partisan political animal. It's the rest of the Republican party whose hypocrisy is on display. The GOP, with all high-minded talk of civic duty and its flimsy talk show patriotism, is being exposed for what it is - the refuge of crooks, thieves and con men, with Tom Delay their beloved but disgraced King. By A. P. Short

Today's DU cover article is right on the money. Thank you A.P. Short :applause:

1. We Need DeLay Around
He's the poster boy for all that's evil and wrong with the Repugnicans. Except for the rabid wingnuts and fundies, this guy makes virtually every one else's skin crawl and the more people learn about him, the less popular/powerful he becomes.

For years, The Hammer hid in the shadows and did some of the nastiest dirty partisan work ever and the chickens of his hubris and arrogance are starting to come home to roost. A lot of the recent exposure on DeLay aren't from Democratic sources or "independent journalists", they're leaks from inside the Repugican power structure...people inside want to take him down. We should let them do the slow "Nixon Dance"...defend then abandon as he gets more politically "radioactive".

It was DeLay and Gingrich and the most rabid of the right wing that grabbed control of the GOOP Congressional caucus then demonized folks like Jim Wright, Tom Foley, Dan Rostenkowski and other Democrats...using their "corruption" (which pales to the Bugman) to incite voters in a well orchestrated '94 election campaign.

Maybe someone in the Democratic party is smart enough to see this as an opportunity, but I'll hold my powder on those thoughts.

2. Sure let him stay in the spotlight, but take away his authority....
...to continue having power over everyone in congress.

3. Dare I Say Burn The Village???
There's precious little Democrats are going to be able to do...especially in the House, until we start retaking seats and, hopefully control, after next year's election.

While some issues...Social Security, for one, require a strong Democratic voice/resistance...and should be a focus, along with some non-legislative topics like Gas Prices, Outsourcing and other economic pains most people are affected by and Democrats need to start pinning on Repugnicans.

The Repugnicans goons felt somehow that "winning" 51% of the vote meant a mandate, and the far right wing is overplaying their hand. They are reading their own press clippings, patting themselves on the back and feel they're invinsible. Let them. Let's show the "purple" states...the folks in suburbia and the sheeple...the faces and the anger that comes when you give DeLay a microphone.

Keeping him hidden makes him more dangerous...that's where he did his dirty work before. Few, even here on DU, know he was the one who led House members into a secret room with all sorts of doctored stuff on Clinton, then strong-armed them into the impeachment vote. He, along, pulled off that humiliation...and he's never been taken to task for this gross attack on the Constitution.

My biggest concern is he'd be banished to some K-Street firm or think tank...or become a media pundit...and his influence remained (as well as his cash flow) but once again he's hidden in the shadows.
