Don't you miss the good old days?
Edited on Fri Apr-15-05 02:02 PM by Horse with no Name
You know, the ones we keep hearing about?
Another poster was talking about the prayer in the schools, and I remember it in Texas but not in Arizona.
But I am curious about all the other good things we don't think about anymore--mainly for the 60's and 70's kids.

Remember how fun race riots were? Didn't you just love the tension in the air before they happened. Don't you remember your mommy giving you your lunch money and telling you to be careful.

I remember my elementary school days being filled with lots of bomb threats at our schools. They were really fun because you got to leave class and stand out in the playground all afternoon.

What fun things do you all remember from the good old days when we went to school?
I am not casting light on school shootings, etc, just trying to joggle memories that the prayer in the schools wasn't the "of all end all".
Shit happened back then too.

1. Grade school air raid drills
in the hall tucking your head or under your desk. An evacuation plan to get home. Christian prayers and feeling sorry for the 5 Jewish kids who just sat there not included. Granddad's bomb shelter. It has always been bad just different.

2.  I remember lock down in school.
They actually had steel bars that slid across the halls so they could lockdown each wing of the building. They didn't really call them race riots, at our school they were called "Spring Fever". I remember the civil defense drills and the bomb threats.

I also remember listening to the fireboard radio as a riot expanded from Main Street to our street. The crowds were flipping over police cars. I can't remember what the riot was about, but I remember a bunch of streakers were involved. I lived in a University town, what can I say?

3. I miss the day s when you could slay your neighbor, cut off
his head, put it on a spike and ride around the country side displaying it for all to see.

Oops - showing my age.

No really - I miss pogroms perpetrated with inpunity.

I also miss being chased by a saber-toothed tiger. Don't know why that stopped since there is no such thing as evolution.
