Don't use power to measure morality (a LTTE --great)
Found this is my local paper today and thought that I would pass it on. Nice to know that there are people next door that are as upset as I am about what is going on in our country.

Don't use power to measure morality

A letter to the editor

April 16, 2005

Dear Editor: What is currently happening in my country is driving me to what is apparently immorality. For the life of me I cannot practice or recognize what those in power refer to as moral values.

My values do not support cuts made in this year's budget, especially to programs such as Medicaid, food stamps, veterans' benefits, education, HIV research, public safety and environmental protection. My values lead me to believe that decisions about health care are best resolved between people and their doctors, not by legislators. My values cause me to reject systemic torture and abuse of detainees and prisoners in Iraq and Afghanistan. My values support an independent federal judiciary. My values support a balanced budget.

On a daily basis I watch as those in power undermine and oppose my core beliefs and push issues that distract from the reality of my country's predicament. Please, fellow citizens, don't let those in power define your moral beliefs. Future generations count on you to stand up and be heard.
