looking for a bit more mainstream article on the mass arrests last week
I got this in an email and was just about to forward it to various wingnut relatives and aquaintences when I realised the source would just be attacked and the message ignored as usual. Anybody know of a similar article in a more mainstream source? (and yes, I do realize I am asking the impossible)

Excerpt:

US Marshals, local police stage nationwide mass arrests
By Bill Van Auken 16 April 2005

In a massive dragnet, US Marshals led more than 90 state, local and other
federal police agencies last week in arresting over 10,000 people across
the country on outstanding warrants, the Justice Department revealed
Thursday.

Code-named Operation Falcon, for Federal and Local Cops Organized
Nationally, the unprecedented federally-coordinated mass arrests were staged
for
maximum political and media impact. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales used
the
operation as the subject of his first news conference since the confirmation
of his
controversial nomination.

The Justice Department, meanwhile, supplied the television networks
government-shot action videotape of Marshals and local cops raiding homes
and breaking down doors. The footage was aired on news programs, accompanied
by
commentary that uncritically parroted the claims made by the department.

The department produced a mind-numbing array of statistics on the raids,
resulting in cookie-cutter articles appearing in local papers and on local
television throughout the country, highlighting the number of arrests made
in each area.

2. During St. Raygun's terms there was the "trimming of the budget"
efforts and the reorganization of federal agencies.

One of the agencies under the microscope was the ATF. In order to prove their worth, they went around arresting thousands for gun violations, many were the elderly pawn shop owners that had let their customers pawn their guns for cash. It seems that the poor pawn shop owners had no idea they were supposed to have federal licenses to traffic in the sale and purchase of guns.

Because of all the arrests, the ATF was able to boost it's numbers and prove how important they were. So successful were they that they are still in operation today.

Operation Falcon was the same type of effort, only this time it was the US Marshal Service that decided the way to survive was to prove how important they are in the grand scheme of things. Repukes like to privatize and quiet rumblings behind the scenes are that the US Marshals, the folks responsible for protecting federal courthouses around the nation and for serving federal warrants and arresting fugitives, are not performing and the duties they perform can be more economically performed by private companies that just so happen to be owned by repuke cronies like Wackenhut.

Piratization is the game, farm out "public services" to private corporations so that the corporations can make the money that would go into our tax coffers to help in supplying the public services we have grown to rely on.

Eventually the war lords and nobels own all and our taxes go to them and to the crown.

4. interesting - thanks
Edited on Sun Apr-17-05 02:02 PM by Kali
on the link from friday -edit to change this to Thursday - interesting that 40,000 arrest happen every day, so this was for sure just a stunt, though a scary one for anyone the slightest bit wary of these f*cks in power.

And also interesting perspective on the US Marshall's possible motivation behind it. Makes it seem a little less insidious, yet the mainstream reaction is what (as always) scares me. Its all good - even the first reactions on the thursday discussion were oh this is a good thing - get these guys off the streets - What do you have to worry about if you haven't done anything wrong? (yet)

:scared: :scared: :scared:

5. Most of these people will probably have to be let go. More Adm. PR
Staged and scripted for public consumption. The fact that not many people even talk about and seem not to care should tell you something.
