McCarthyism Watch -- political postage stamps now a no-no....
Looks like we should all start buying American flag stamps only. And I liked the Thurgood Marshall stamps I had....

Secret Service Inspects Art Exhibit

April 7 was opening night for a new exhibit at the Glass Curtain Gallery of Columbia College Chicago.

Two Secret Service agents paid a visit just before the doors opened to the public.

They were not art aficionados.

They were there to inspect the exhibit, which is called "Axis of Evil: The Secret History of Sin."

The exhibit consists of depictions of political postage stamps about such topics as racism, violence, torture, the Catholic Church, George Bush, John Ashcroft, and the Iraq War. Forty-seven artists, including some from Canada, England, France, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Switzerland, Serbia, and Uruguay, contributed to the traveling exhibit.

1. Disgusting.
Persecuting artists? They'll be burning books next. These things were sent through the mail. They's unlikely to deprave or corrupt!

2. In all fairness...
The SS would investigate such an exhibit no matter who the president was. Pictures of guns pointed at sitting president's heads don't fly well with the people whose main responsibility it is to protect the president.

4. another postage stamp story
a member of the KKK went into the Harrison AR post office about ten years ago, loaded down with a bunch of hate mail, asking for stamps. The clerk asked which ones he wanted and the guy answered "Anything but the &$%^ LOVE stamps!"

The clerk took him at his word. He put Martin Luther King stamps on every letter.

A tip of the hat to the guys and gals at the Harrison PO.
