"People of Faith", just what the hell does that mean to the republicans?
Edited on Mon Apr-18-05 08:34 AM by mopaul
dictionary: 'faith', the firm belief in something that cannot be proven.

our parents had faith in us, and firmly believed that we would grow up to be fine people. yet, we might have ended up total junkie failures like george w. bush.

we have a natural faith in our leaders too, we WANT to believe them, and we WANT them to run the ship and protect us all. and sometimes plain old blind faith is all it takes to corral millions of people.

some believe that Jesus is coming back soon, after being dead for 2,000 years, and i say fine, believe what you want, let your faith be your guide.

but faith can be a very dangerous thing too. and blind faith is the most dangerous of all.

faith in our elected leaders? hah! faith in the basic goodness of the american people? hah! faith in the future of our nation? hah!

tom delay and trent lott have been squealing about how 'the democrats are attacking people of faith', meaning, born again crazies. PEOPLE OF FAITH is the new term for brain washed cultists, who blindly support nazis, disguised as elected officials.

1. Remember that the nazis who followed Hitler were men and women
and, yes, children of Faith.

4th Circuit OKs Official "Judeo-Christian" Only Prayers

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A55157-2005Apr14.html

The Washington Post writes that "A federal appeals court yesterday upheld the way Chesterfield County conducts the invocation at its Board of Supervisors meetings, dismissing a lawsuit filed by a local Wiccan priestess who said she was excluded from leading the brief prayer.

"County officials had told Cynthia Simpson that she could not be on the list of religious leaders allowed to deliver the invocation because it was limited to members of 'Judeo-Christian' religions. Backed by civil liberties groups, she filed a federal lawsuit in 2002 alleging that the policy amounted to religious discrimination."

Replied Kent Willis, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Virginia, one of two groups that brought the lawsuit, "The Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors, a governmental entity, is endorsing the Judeo-Christian religious tradition while discriminating against all other religions. This kind of government preference for some religions over others is exactly what our Founding Fathers sought to avoid when they gave us First Amendment."

3. Wow! That also excludes...
Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists...

We've got a lot of all of those, and more, around here, and excluding them is unthinkable. (although it's been tried)

You realize, of course, that they really wanted to exclude Jews, too, but were afraid to.

Chickenshit bigots-- the worst kind. The old fashioned bigots you could get into a stnd-up fight with. And win.

8. This is a terrible ruling
It blatantly disregards the rights of the followers of minority religions.

4. Is this going to turn into one of those "atheism is a religion" threads?
As in "Since you say 'I believe I will have lunch', this makes you a deeply religious man"?

Because they never seem to end in a friendly manner.

6. Sorry Mopaul, I didn't mean you.
It just seems to be a bit of a heated area around here right now. Anything you post is automatically far more valid than anything I might post - it's how the replies turn out that worried me ...

10. By "People of Faith" Delay means
FAUX news watching, Rush worshipping, repuke voting morons who seemingly have boundless faith that the BFEE is looking out for them - in spite of all evidence to the contrary. Behind closed doors Delay and Lott are laughing their asses off that the masses can be so gullible. A couple of snake oil salesmen peddling a bogus rightwing "values" agenda to keep the ignorant happy while they carry out the real agenda of making millionaires richer, promoting imperialism abroad, and destroying the social fabric at home.

12. People with very little faith
The people they are trying to attract actually have very little faith. These people are very easy to manipulate because they love to go through the motions and pretend to be devote Christians. These same people panic if their children are exposed to evolution or if they "accidentally" watch a "sexy" show such as "Desperate Housewives." In other words, they fear exposure to opposing ideas because they are afraid it will corrupt their faith. They support the Republicans because the Republicans will "protect" them by passing "decency" laws. However, if your faith is easily corrupted by exposure to different ideas, your faith is weak. A truly devote person does not need protection from opposing ideas.
