3. How does a store selling religious wear |
|
Edited on Mon Apr-18-05 12:03 PM by Heaven and Earth
make Kansas a theocracy?
I know about the attorney general's attempt to get the abortion records of young women, and I think that is appalling. I know about the gay marriage ban and I hate it. They are definitely enforcing their personal morality on others.
But teens wearing religious t-shirts? The definition of a theocracy is " A government ruled by or subject to religious authority." How does selling t-shirts make a religious government? If people start wearing anarchist shirts in Michigan, does that make Michigan an anarchic state?
Let's not go overboard, here.

agree I am still terrified of what will become of this state when stores sell shirts that say, "My God is better than your God." It is certainly just another slap in the face to all of us who are either not Christians or believe in the separation of church and state. Every day there is just one more thing here. It is frightening.

How does a private store selling Christian shirt worry you about separation of church and state? I read the article the shirt are fairly mild. The store is in downtown Lawrence. Lawrence is in Douglas county which rejected the state marriage amendment. Everyone relax. Across the street is a place that sells Buck Fush shirts. Just as offensive to some in the other direction. It's called free speech, it's alive and well in Kansas. Nothings the matter with Kansas (ok..a few things..but not this)

6. The shirts they show in the story |

are mild but some of them are not. There is a store in Topeka too. Look, I agree that free speech is important and agree that this is allowable but I worry because of all the things that have begun to happen in this state. I have been up against these people and find it a very dangerous situation. While you and I agree about free speech, they do not. Publicly stating that your God is superior to someone else's is quite disturbing and the tendency of the people who do believe this to become even more vocal and demanding is fed by this kind of thing. That is all. It worries me, it angers me, it disturbs me that a group who would see us shut up at the very least would go from being in your face to being extreme in your face.
