Air America Ratings ...

Does anyone have good sources to what Air America's current ratings are like???

The conservatives keep saying that AAR is dying. But somehow, I think they're lying.

2. No ...

Yes, the growth is excellent. But I want RATINGS. In some cases, stations have lost ground going from oldies from Air America. Is there a turnaround here.

Lets put it this way, if radio stations can make more playing the oldies than Air America, Air America will not survive.

18. The Only Ratings We Can See Are 12+ - Means Nada, But If You Want
you can go to radioandrecords.com to see 12+ ratings, but the ratings that count for AAR are 18-34 and more importantly 25-54.

Day parts are important, ie: (morning drive, afternoon drive) is Franken still beating O'Really in NYC, or other cities.

Ratings are important, but the quality of the audience is also important. AAR gets good numbers from "affluent" folks like those who listen to NPR.

And it's a VERY GOOD sign that Clear Channel (evil as they are) are signing up Air America stations (even though they are not all pure AAR programming) If they didn't believe in the success of this format, they wouldn't touch the format.

It takes at least two years to determine how each station will do. Remember they are going up against long time, right-wing powerhouse stations.

Be patient grasshopper....The fact that AAR has done so well in one year is something to celebrate.

3. Specific daypart numbers are embargoed
Most of the numbers you are seeing on the web are 5am-12am 12-65year numbers, which are misleading.

What you really want are the numbers for each daypart (air shift) and for the past year or two, those numbers have been very hard to come by unless you are affiliated with a radio station in the same market.

The numbers for New York rarely even leak in the radio column, like they used to for years.

14. Exactly, Aribriton wants to make money
letting the ratings go public looses their income stream.

They really crack down hard if specific numbers leak. The only let vague numbers out every now and then for the overall station, but not hour by hour, show by show. If you want to see those, contact Arbriton, sign their non-disclosure agreement and look at it yourself. It is impossible to see them on DU or any other web board without a major crackdown on the board by Arbitron.

7. The first month or so Drudge would crow over low AA ratings
and put up big banners about how much lower they were than Limbaugh's.

But after the first couple of months Drudge has stopped reporting the rating comparison. Ha! Wonder why.

I haven't seen any ratings lately. It's that government controled media, ya know?

9. I was about to post the same question.
How is Al Franken doing against Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly in New York?

What about other cities?

10. I don't know, but some advertising accounts are big names.
Terminex, The History channel, at least in streaming format. (That advertising worked well on me, as I watched the Roosevelt program.)Ovaltine, The BBC, What else? How big is "Go To Meeting?"

Did I hear something about a car manufacturer's upcoming account?

Anywho, we know the Right-Wing would destroy AAR if they could, and it wouldn't surprise me if the big creeps in the White House were wracking their brains to figure out some way to do just that.

I seem to recall that folks tried to wish AAR away in the past by spreading their usual crapola.

Not to dismiss the real problems AAR has had in the past.

13. Not to mention Walmart and Home Depot
:puke:

I have heard them on WLIB, the flagship station. I don't find either of these businesses very progressive, but we'll take the advertising dollars anyday.

Air America is #1 here in Oregon. And in the Portland area it just kicks the crap out all Neo-Cons on the air.

16. That's a great resource. Thanks.
I lived in Miami over 2 years ago when KleerChannel whores decided to turn the more progressive of their 2 talk stations (WINZ) in the area into a "Fox Sports" channel.

I'm happy to see that since I moved, they changed formats and became an Air America affiliate, and DOUBLED their ratings!

1.1 what?

20. To put it as simplistic as possible
Edited on Tue Apr-19-05 06:51 PM by Balbus
I believe it's the percentage of the available market that's listening to that radio station for at least 5 minutes of every 15 minute time period. For a more detailed explanation you might try this link:

http://www.arbitron.com/downloads/purplebook.pdf

On edit: This isn't my line of business so I might be in over my head here. Hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

22. These Are 12+ Numbers
don't mean shit!

1.1 is % of listeners they get in 12+ (all listeners 12 years old+) The numbers that count are 25-54 (yrs old) which R&R won't reveal.

I had 3 arbitron books once, each book accounts for thousands of listeners....I was able to skew the numbers for the alternative station
