Note To The MSM: American Idol, Survivor, Etc. ARE NOT FREAKING NEWS!
Edited on Wed Apr-20-05 07:11 AM by DistressedAmerican
I get so pissed off when I see television shows treated like news events:grr:. There is a finite amount of reporting time in the day. Everyday important news goes unreported. Yet they waste their time acting like someone getting voted off of American Fucking Idol is important breaking news! :wtf:

Hell these stories make the Michael Jackson trial look look REAL news!

We wonder why Americans are so uninformed. When the media is obsessed with this crap, who can blame them for being woefully ignorant of the world around them.

I believe it has something to do with the word "reality". Nothing is real about these shows. Reality denotes non-fiction. These so called Reality TV shows are pure fantasy land crap:puke:!

Please explain to me how it is more newsworthy that such and such got kicked off the freaking island than it is that Charlie beat the shit out of Wolcott on Deadwood:shrug:?

Well Alright, what does an African genocide or ethnic strife compare to fucking 70's night on American Idol?

No wonder the world finds us ignorant, arrogant, and self-centered and as a result hates us. We are television lobotomized zombies.

Stop Watching And Supporting This Crap:banghead:!
If You Do, You Are Part Of The Problem!:spank:

Use The Time To Educate Yourself And Do Something To Rid Our Country Of Its Corrupt Regime Instead!

1. And that is why they are losing viewers right and left
I get my news from reasonable news sources, not stupid blow dried talking heads.

2. My Mother....
as rabid a Republican that has ever lived, told me yesterday that SHE'S even fed up with the news on television. "It's infotainment, not news". I was flabbergasted. She's never voted for a Democrat in her life, but WOULDN'T vote for Chimpy last November. She just refused to vote, for the first time ever.
I told her that the only place to get news today is on the internet, but she thinks the internet is evil and that everything on it is lies. So my poor news starved Mother is in quite a pickle. She's even lost faith in FOX as a "fair and balanced" news source.
I guess she'll just have to play a lot more bingo to lighten up her life.

3. Have you tried, maybe, to get her started reading newspapers online?
That gets some folks more used to consuming news on the Net.
You can explain to her that it's the same news she would get if she went and bought a bunch of different newspapers from all over the world (get her started on some British newspapers online, as well). Then, it becomes more clear to them that it is 'news' and not some pack of lies.
Once folks like your Mom become more and more familiar with reading news online, then it makes it easier for them to see how blogs back up their sources and prove their facts.

Just a suggestion - that's how I won my Mom over.
The only corporate news either of us watch anymore is Keith Olbermann.

4. Why is THIS news???
I scream this all day long! I could not agree with you more. I am so fed up with the news of the day being that Brittany is pregnant or Jen & Ben have split. Last week when every news broadcast had the story of Bush's Ipod picks they spent more time in "serious" discussion on this than they did on any other news of the day. I see the the fog of mis and irrelevant information engulfing any source of truth we have. I find this so incredibly frightening.

5. Amen.
I have been saying this for a long time. I haven't watched television news for at least 7 years. When you stop letting all of that bullshit into your head the real picture of what is happening to msm becomes glaringly apparent.

6. This is why I watch BBC and CNNI
CNNI can suck too on occasion, like when they do a MJ update, but it does stick to world news within the hour.

8. agree completely
I watch the local FOX station in the morning, as it's the only channel with local news.

At least once an hour, we get a breathless American Idol update - every single friggin' day. I sent an email to the station saying that if I wanted to watch that trash, I'd watch it in the evening, and would appreciate if they could spend less time promoting their prime time programming on the so-called "news" (I sent this when they failed to cover a single domestic war protest last month, but had a lengthy American Idol piece).

They'll keep doing no matter what, but we have to let them know they're pissing off their viewers.

12. Just one little question
Or observation if you will. You admonish us as part of the problem if we watch media television, but you are complaining about having to endure this crap while you yourself watch media television. Aren't you part of the problem?

I think it's safe to say that most anyone on DU is seeking to inform themselves through alternative and more accurate, serious and independent sources. You're preaching to the choir.

Your point is definitely correct though. The Bachelor and related garbage is NOT effin' news, nor is it reality. Save it for E or some other crap channel.

13. I Admonish People For Watching And Supporting "Reality TV"
Which, I basically find deplorable. The more people watch this nonsense, to more appeal it has as "news" to program directors. Any notion that I watch this crap is fully midguided.

As to watching the MSM news, I have neraly entirely cut that out. I see it on occasion when my wife turns it on.

What set me off was actually web browsing that took me to MSNBC's website where that was staring me in the freaking face.

16. So do I
I think it really does show a persons intelligence level. When I confront most people their response is " well it's just entertainment", then proceed to tell me some stupid details of survivor. What I find most amusing is they usually think it's real.
