**BREAKING NEWSMAX ALERT**
must be a sLow newsday. this was the 'breaking news aLert' i got.

Ann Coulter Says Her Mom
Loved NewsMax, Hated TIME
Breaking Exclusively from NewsMax Magazine:

Ann Coulter may be on the cover of Time magazine and recently named among the most influential 100 people in America, but she hasn't forgotten that NewsMax Magazine had her on our cover in August of 2003. On Matt Drudge's popular Sunday night radio show, Drudge asked Coulter how she felt about being on her first major magazine cover.

Ann Coulter quickly noted that Time was not the first, NewsMax was.
It's not the first time NewsMax Magazine has beaten the big mags to the punch.

And NewsMax's "Coulter's Fight" cover photo showed Ann as she is, not as she appears in the distorted "fisheye" photo Time used on its cover.

Time's photographer appears to have used a wide "fisheye" lens for the cover photo, stretching Coulter's legs and feet, while shrinking the rest of her body.

Coulter told Matt Drudge Sunday night that Time used a more flattering photo of North Korean dictator Kim Jong-il, noting that the Time photo is so distorted "my own mother would not even recognize me!"

2. Oddly enough
I found it to be a great photograph from a purely photography as art kind of perspective.

11. I agree with you - It is a stunning portrait of an unpleasant subject
The photographer was trying to convey her forceful demeanor, a demeanor that makes you uncomfortable. You almost expect one of those big shoes to come crashing into your head.

24. It reminds me of something else too
I think this may have been a homage to a rather famous photograph from the 1960s or 1970s. I just quite place my one good neuron on it this morning.

15. ROFLMAO....
She can claim some sort of fancy lens all she wants to, but I believe that is just the real Ann coming out. Everybody now. "We are off to see the wizard. The wonderful wizard of Oz, because because because because..." Remember the wicked witch Dorothy's house fell on? Check out those tootsies... Look familiar?

29. I completely agree. The angle, the chair, the background, the shadows...
very nice photo... horrible subject, but very neat picture... and it certainly brings out the hate she exudes.

19. Q: Why is it called a fisheye?
Hi Rockholm,

A fisheye lens is simply an ultra-wide angle lens that distorts perspective in a cylindrical manner. More on this here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fisheye_lens

And some true fisheye lens examples:

http://scotthaefner.com/kap/gallery/?t=fisheye

If a fisheye lens were truly used on Ann Coulter, she'd look like she was sitting on Planet Neocon.

From my own view, I think the photographer employed a wide angle lens for purpose of exaggerating Coulter's features, similar to how she exaggerates everything else.

Too bad the photographer didn't do a wide angle close up of Coulter's face; her nose would have been suitably elongated, Pinocchio-like.
