1. well, watch the other two CSPANs, then. |

Some of us political junkies enjoy keeping up with British politics - I love when they grill the PM, great teevee.
"limey" is so fucking pathetic as an insult.

2. On the contrary, we need to hear from the other world leaders. |

How will we understand the bigger picture of global politics if we don't learn about the politics of other countries?
Prime Minister's Questions is a weekly hour of (entertaining) insight into British politics.
Edit: I also enjoy the Canadian Broadcasting System newscasts on C-Span.

3. 2 weeks to a general election in the UK |
|
I suppose you feel similarly that US presidential debates should not be broadcast to other parts of the world that we hear their points of veiw. That they are liars, i do not question, that it is relevant, i take position with... even relevant to the american left, as the UK is the ONLY allie (as in A-LIE) who has gone along with the war crimes of the US, and were the UK government to fall as a result, then there would be no "a-LIARS", and a serious serious problem for the US pretending any level of multilateral engagement.

although many of us labour supporters (including MPs) are disgusted with Bliar over Iraq and his shameless toady-ing to Bush. But it's a case of voting for the party, not the leader. A Tory government would truly be a disaster but isn't likely to happen. Bliar has said this will be his last election and we're looking forward to someone like Gordon Brown taking his place. Many have considered voting Liberal Democrat as a protest vote but they'd never win. Under Bliar the Labour party has gone much too far to the right, to the point where those of us who worked on behalf of Labour in the '70s and '80s hardly recognise it these days. It's not the same party that introduced the National Health System or backed up labour unions, that's for sure.
On edit: I'd also like to say that your recent election was followed with great interest and discussion (and incredulity) over here (despite those of your countrymen writing messages like "Fuck off limeys" to our newspapers). Perhaps we understood that what happens in one country affects people in other countries, or perhaps we're just interested in what's going on in the world and not just our own little bit of it.

I followed our election by reading the Greg Palast, the BBC and the Guardian on line each day. The state of our mainstream media is so sorry that I had to go to foreign news sources to get accurate news and insightful commentary.
If I had not found DU I would not have the opportunity to communicate with like minded, progressive people from all over the world. I am very interested in what's happening in other countries. I'm especially interested in the UK and Ireland. My Scots-Irish ancestors came from Northern Ireland to the North Carolina mountains in the 1700s.

7. The thing to watch is the libdems |
|
I'm sorry i replied to the wrong post, if you feel my tone was a bit harsh, it was meant for the harsh tone of the "other" post.
Labour will win. That is not in dispute, and, GOSh, so much it will be nice to hear of Gordon Brown's long awaited ascendency to the pulpit.
THe thing to watch is ANY shift in the libdems, as they are the party of dissent with the "liar" parties. Though tactical voters might try to vote tory to weaken labours advantage, most will be straightforward and vote their heart against war, liars and authoritarian paternal centralisation.
Greens will do well, as well, and all of these downshifters to the minority parties are losses to the major asshole parties. Labour is seeing a 19% drop amongst cannabis smokers for selling them out... and no need to mention the torys who sold out minorities by their very existance.
In any case, expect the UK electorate to deliver a rebuke to bush and being a bush poodle. It might not come out as noble as that of the great people of spain dumping assnard, but surely it will be a knock on the nose of the third way between the flesh of bush's rump.
