22. Is this the song?
I'm a lumberjack and I'm OK
A D
I sleep all night and I work all day
(He's a lumberjack and he's OK
He sleeps all night and he works all day)
I cut down trees, I eat my lunch
I go to the lavat'ry
On Wednesdays I go shopping
And have buttered scones for tea
(He cuts down trees...)
(He's a lumberjack...)
I cut down trees, I skip and jump
I love to press wild flow'rs
I put on women's clothing
And hang around in bars
(He cuts down trees...)
(He's a lumberjack...)
I cut down trees, I wear high heels
Suspenders and a bra
I wish I'd been a girlie
Just like my dear papa
(He cuts down trees...)
(He's a lumberjack...)

She guards souls on the lakefront like the Packers offensive line protects Favre.

And she watches over all the graves of me dead immigrant relatives.....

Could you perhaps be more specific. What part are you hating?

20. Well, I had hatred for the Catholic Church bred into me
I got rid of it as I developed disdain for any hierarchical religion. Now, I do not hate the Catholic Church. In fact, I have some respect for the way it sticks to its guns even though it is losing whatever authority it had in the Western World. Mostly, I like the art and music it sponsored. I don't have much respect for that much time, money and energy going into what is essentially the promulgation of a myth.....

To many of the posters here, I think the Catholic Church represents their own culture in opposition to the WASP culture. In an Anglo Saxon - American world, the Catholic Church represented the only real power besides Communism that people could believe in. This nation has had only one Catholic President, and he barely squeaked in. Soviet style Communism has been destroyed, much to the credit of Pope JPII and the Good People of Gdansk.....

So, what is left to support you as you oppose Anglo-American Capitalism? The Taliban, Al Quida, Iranian Theocracy, Chinese Prison Labor Capitalism, Scandinavian socialism, the Russian Mafia? Well, maybe you need a strong Catholic Church to back you up in economic struggles. As far as the problems the Church has with Women and Gays, well, you can't be all things to all people, BUT this is why the Church will continue to weaken in the Europe and North America while gaining strength is impoverished nations that have no other Champion.

23. nope I just talked to a gentlemen who ran a group
operating under the mantra Catholics for Peace. He's a living example why its a mistake to act as if any religion (or other belief system for that matter) is a monolithic entity. He was a beautiful man and his Catholic faith drives him. So, one religion does not a Pope make. He'll be gone when he dies. He's just one man with some seriously arcane beliefs. He doesn't represent all. Who care's if there is that myth of infallibility?

Me, I'm an atheist but I don't fear religion. I see no reason to. My fear is of people who use religion to dominate others. But I also fear those who use science to do the same. Both can be liberating in the right hands, just as they can be destructive when driven by greed, envy, sloth, lust and all the other deadliest of deadlies or whatever.

29. this may seem off the wall.., but did you really expect
a liberal pope? A "short run" Conservative pope to pull together all the fragments of the Catholics and to get support form Bush on abortion and federal funding of private schools, not to mention an anti-gay pope who would sweep the child molesting thing under the rug before it bankrupts the American Church.... I don't like it, but I didn't expect anything else...U.S. Catholics are true cafeteria Catholics, they go to church, and come home and follow there own beliefs form ultra-conservative to liberal..they are as diverse as any other group of people...I think you should release that hate for your well being

44. Yes, hate destroys the hater and empowers the hated.
But some people here are positively addicted to it. Lately DU bears more than a slight resemblance to Orwell's "Two Minutes' Hate," except that it goes on 24/7 instead of just two minutes every morning.

45. Listen and hear the point
There are real emotions roiling off this individuals post. Does dismissing them resolve the situation? There are people that are threatened by religions. The more institutional and dogmatic the more threatening. The Vatican represents a very strong source of world power. For those not in line with their beliefs it can be threatening.

When you hear such emotion perhaps the first instinct should be to try to reason with the individual. Find out what it is that threatens them. If after discussing things you find that they are unreasonable then perhaps you should deal with them in a different way.

Dialog is necissary. Religious is a very tough subject.

43. What does hate do for you?
Do you think telling a person that believes a thing that you hate them for it is going to change things? Does it give you strength to throw you against their numbers? Does it accomplish anything?

If you perceive a problem understand it. Examine it. Know it. And then seek a way to right it. There are a world of better ways to correct a situation rather than head on assaults. Enemies need not be enemies. Different views can be brought together. If you believe someone is wrong and you are right then the struggle is not to oppose them but to win them over.
