Police offered few details about what they called the hoax, however, saying the investigation was still in progress.

One question that remains: Where did the finger come from?

Police said Friday they are still trying to determine the answer, and investigators have concluded that Wendy's was not to blame.

"Thus far, our evidence suggests that the truest victims in this case are indeed the Wendy's owner, operators and employees here in San Jose, who have suffered financially throughout this investigation," Davis said.

Cops Nab Woman, Say Wendy's Finger a Hoax

By KIM CURTIS
Associated Press Writer

7:42 PM PDT, April 22, 2005

SAN JOSE, Calif. — Police investigating how a human finger ended up in a woman's bowl of Wendy's chili declared the claim a hoax Friday after she was arrested on charges of attempted grand larceny.

The arrest of Anna Ayala at her home outside Las Vegas was the latest twist in a case that has become a late-night punch line, taken a bite out of Wendy's sales and forced the fast-food chain to check its employees for missing fingers.

She was accused of attempted grand larceny because of the financial losses Wendy's restaurants have suffered since Ayala made the claim. The loss to Wendy's in the Bay area is $2.5 million, according to the felony complaint against her.

Ayala, 39, claimed she bit down on the well-manicured, 1 1/2-inch finger in a mouthful of her steamy chili on March 22 in San Jose. She had hired a lawyer and filed a claim against the Wendy's franchise owner, but dropped the lawsuit threat soon after suspicion fell on her.

4. I remember reading
that there were investigation's of what happened and they investigated people's hands and nobody lost a finger so that's when I knew for sure it was a hoax.

5. Read that the finger was being tested for embalming fluid and something
about the woman's boyfriend worked at a mortuary? Anybody else catch that? If true, the finger probably came from some dead person who has been buried or cremated. That would make it hard to trace.

Edited on Fri Apr-22-05 11:24 PM by Heyo
... next time.. just fall on your ass in the grocery store..

When you show up with a human finger, there's going to be an investigation as to what hand it was once attached to.

She deserves what she gets.

I ate Wendy's today. :dunce: It was tasty.

7. Either that, or Wendys is orchestrating the police.
keep in mind that they don't know the truth of the matter, but the woman is being vilified as if they do.

"Wendy's is thrilled with the announcement made today,"

Las Vegas police on Friday were holding 39-year-old Anna Ayala without bail pending a Tuesday extradition hearing on a charge of attempted grand larceny.

Prosecutors are accusing her of trying to extort $2.5 million from Wendy's. She also faces charges of grand larceny in connection with an unrelated real estate case.

So it is interesting that they brought out the unrelated charge. Either the woman really is a consistent criminal, or a Corporation has the power to manipluate events as they see fit in the media and the police services.
