Bad words, good words ....... |
|
I'm talking about the words ... not the concept the words are intended to convey. I am talking about the word ... the way it sounds when you say it. The way it sounds when you hear it. The word ... not the concept. The feeling of the word. The emotion it might evoke.
Some words that were neutral or even positive to me have changed. Formerly bad words now sound good. And vice versa. Flip and flop.
Here are a few:
Religion - it now sounds for all the world like the word "fuck" used to. Bad word.
Terrorist - sad to say, it sounds a bit positive. Or at least neutral. But it has been so overused, it no longer sounds bad. Am I inured to it? Neutral word
Fuck - it now sounds so totally normal to me, since I've found myself using it a lot for the past four and a half years. Good word
Security - I get this whole "wimp" vibe from it. "Waaaaaah I want my security." Bad word.
Homeland - its is a gray, foreboding word. Like concrete. Some red there too. And black. Geometric. Bad word.
Protest - silly word.
Crisis - I get sleepy. Neutral word.
Truth - alternates. Meaningless. Neutral word.
Many, many more for me .....
What words sound different to you?

Especially when it comes out of a certain someone's mouth, sounds like a bad word, sorry to say.

9. Running from the word "Christian".......... |
|
seems to be what I'm doing,as a liberal, progressive Christian. I cringe at the sound of the word, but what am I to call myself?

Bad, very bad. It used to be neutral for me. Now it is what is so very wrong with the world.

... a Republican acquaintance made the remark that Reagan had "made 'liberal' a dirty word."
My response to him was: "Yeah, but it took Dubya to make 'conservative' an obscenity."

10. The first time Bushco rolled that one out |
|
they had Chimpy calling it the "New Clear Skies" program. It sounded just like "Nuclear Skies." (I thought, gee you think they taught him how to pronounce "nuclear?")
