Amherst teen charged with theft of Oxycontin
A Williamsville East High School student was arrested Wednesday night in connection with the theft of 300 Oxycontin pain pills from the pharmacy where she worked.
Amherst police filed four felony drug charges against Rachel A. Lewis, 17, of Via Foresta Lane, Amherst, describing her as the subject of an ongoing investigation into the sale of prescription pain pills to students in the town.
Lewis was arrested at about 9 p.m. outside the Rite Aid drugstore at 1640 Hopkins Road, where she had worked as a clerk.
"She'd stolen 300 Oxycontin pills last night, and we have reason to believe she may have been involved in other thefts of Oxycontin and Hydrocodone pills," a police spokesman said. "There have been other thefts at the store, and she had access to the pharmacy area."
