Republicans feel comfortable ending the filibuster because.....
Edited on Sun Apr-24-05 08:06 PM by SoCalDem
they own the voting machine companies, they control the judiciary, and they control the media.

With those three "cogs" in place, they probably think they will not be a minority party for a long time.

Minority protection is the reason for the filibuster, and even with the ability to filibuster still in place, they have managed to pretty much upset the apple-cart, so they surely won't need it in the forseeable future.

It's like "Grandma's good clothes"..the ones she saves for special occasions, and never wears.. The ones that her heirs find..tags still attached, when they are cleaning out her house after her death....

The filibuster is there "just in case"..and the repubes have no use for it anymore..

1. They MUST be sure they will never lose again.
Otherwise this whole filibuster thing makes no sense.

(or they think the world will end in the next few election cycles)

2. Yep... and they won't go telling the Republicans who still have some
integrity... they don't want to spoil their foot hold.

This administration is a new control experiment.

All the parts are in place, the only thing they have to make sure of is that there is no productive dialogue.

The internet is their biggest challenge. But they keep their message simple enough for ideologues who will defend them despite all reason.

Their control is almost complete.

7. The remaining moderate republicans are radioactive and they know it
They will remain silent, because they value their jobs more than the public trust in them.,,

5. I don't think they DO feel comfortable; some of them must be
appalled, but what can they do?

6. filibuster doesnt end
If the Dems keep talking (debating) on the floor then the filibuster continues, it can't be ended by the Reps. That's how it works, just do a real filibuster. simple really
