Did the corporate media deliberately not cover "Justice Sunday" to
avoid exposing the extreme wing-nuts of the religious reich and scaring us with all their frightening gibberings?

Did the media just quietly ignore the story on purpose? It seems like this would have been a major story, especially considering all the stories they have been doing on 'faith' constantly for the past 6 - 8 months.

Dobson, Falwell, et al have been getting lots of coverage. Tonight Larry King had Jewish, Christian and Islamic clergy on a show that dealt with the afterlife. Curiously, Shirley McClain was not present even though she has some very fascinating views of the afterlife.

With all the recent media activity to cover religion, this major frenzied rally that was broadcast to so many churches seems to have been largely ignored.

1. Good question...
I was thinking the same thing...After all, they discussed it on almost all the morning shows and talkshows...All of a sudden, it's not newsworthy??? Why?

3. There is nothing on MSNBC, CNN web sites; CNN Headline had no story
Usually any story of that scale gets on the web sites. And there was not story, not even a scrolling footer on CNN Headline.

It's VERY conspicuous that they chose not to cover this.

2. ABC I think
did a few seconds on their evening news and said they'd have more on their morning show. Their cute little "title" is "church and state".

We shall see how they cover it......

4. Yes.
It lets them 'win' twice.

On the one hand, it keeps moderates who might vote Democratic from finding out just how out of touch with reality the Religious Reich Wingers are.

On the other, the RRW can claim 'Liberal Media Bias' for 'refusing to show our rally'.

5. Hadn't considered the double jeopardy (failure to expose AND persecution)
These people must be taking lessons from Karl Rove.

6. How widely was it shown?
Anybody know how many churches or viewers were expected to be involved?

7. Today there were a few stories
which was much more than we had yesterday, but I still believe that they down played the hardcore features of this "Justice Sunday" to spare the religious right from embarrassing itself.

8. It was the first story covered on GMA this morning.

Not too favorable to Justice Sunday or Frist. My local news (Tn. where Frist is from) covered it last night on evening news. Also, not too favorable to Justice Sunday or Frist. I don't watch too much news anymore, but those are my experiences.

I heard CSPAN was talking about it this morning but I didn't watch.

Edit because I forgot to mention, Olbermann is supposed to cover it tonight, MSNBC @ 7pm central

9. I think so
they report what the wingnuts say in a sanitized way, so that middle of the road americans won't be horrified by seeing what they do up close.

10. We're ridiculous.
If they had covered it, we'd be complaining that Frist got free airtime for another worthless puff speech.

If they don't cover it, we complain that they're avoiding exposing religious right wingnuts, despite the fact that this was just a propaganda speech devoid of newsworthy content, and they certainly didn't mind showing wingnuts during Schiavo.
