Did Read have it planned ALL ALONG? |
|
IT seems to me he knew the WHOOOLE thing. Frist goes wacko on Sunday, Reid says lets work together/compromise which im SURE he knew would NOT happen, THEN Frist AND Rove say no, so now THEY look the obstructionists and now Reid can say we tried but they would not play.

1. What...you mean that maybe Reid's finesse is more effective than |
|
the hardheaded Boxeresque party-line obstructionism that DUers claim is the only way to avoid "selling out?"
No, that can't be.

I REALLY want to know if he planned this all along and KNEW what would happen, to make the Reps look WORSE and back them into the corner. NOW what will happen that Frist and ROve say NO DEAL.

who can say? It's possible that, in light of Frist doing the Sunday Justice thing, Reid anticipated that Frist would hardline and it'd be a good opportunity to be seen extending an olive branch. But really, who knows? Maybe Reid does... KJ

That was the intent of my first post. Politics is more than just bullheaded denial of what the other guys want.

Reid is a smart parliamentarian and I admire that, even if we don't agree at every point.

|
about Reid is he has dealt with the mafia in NV and those guys are pretty bad. The Bush people and his followers like Frist are worse. So I'm sure he knows what he's doing. Only thing I don't get is the bankruptcy bill.

So far Reid has been on the attack and I just couldn't believe my ears when Malloy was talking about this last night. It does make sense. Show how the republicans are high on power and not willing to compromise on anything. Maybe they have something up their sleeves. In a thread in GDPolitics someone mentioned how yesterday (or maybe day before) Boxer on the Senate floor said if the republicans do away with the filibuster they will talk about matters the republicans wish to keep out of the Senate. I wonder what that's about.

and having a large party enables us to utilize the right tactic at the right time, or two correct tactics at the same time. Props to Reid, and Boxer freakin rocks. KJ

It used to be considered honorable to stand up for what you believe in. I guess not anymore in this country, and on this board. http://www.cafepress.com/liberalissues.21326152

16. I consider it quite honorable to stand up |
|
in the event that your 'standing up' accomplishes something of value. If the Republicans have enough votes to ram through a piece of offensive legislation, easing its passage by voting 'yes' in return for a few tweaks that reduce the bill's power is probably a better idea than hassling the Republicans, extending debate as long as possible, going on all the talk shows and bitching, voting outright "no," and then watching as: 1. The bill eventually passes in full effect, meaning the battle was fought entirely in vain. 2. You party looks even weaker than before, as it was unable to stop the bill even when fully mobilized.

14. If it accomplishes nothing but pacifying the base while |
|
still allowing the Republican proposal to go through unabated (but maybe scoring a mention on the evening news) in a situation where finesse, politics, and dealmaking would actually gain the Democrats some concessions, then yes, I would call throwing away potential benefits to the American people in favor of angry speechmaking and protest votes "hardheaded."
Boxer may "stand up" to tyranny, but when we've got 45 seats to their 55, that doesn't mean anything.
But she does have her purpose. She keeps people who most want to see someone complain about the Republicans happy.

|
has always been a part of politics. I happen to think Reid is a master at that game. But when Boxer or any other senator or house rep stands up, it shows their fellow dems that we won't just lay down and not say anything. It's not really obstructionism if what Boxer says doesn't obstruct anything, is it? we are in the minority in both chambers of congress, then we will lose anyway, but better to go down fighting than to go down willingly.
We need both types of strategies. No need to criticize one over the other, both work in their different ways.

23. Boxer certainly has her purpose, |
|
but she's as useful now as she'll ever be. I've seen far too many people her saying that she should be the Sen. Maj. Leader, that she should be our Presidential candidate, that Reid ought learn not to sell out like she did...
They all miss the point, and I was addressing their viewpoint.

They've been having their panties in a squirm lately and fighting among themselves. This way they can't blame the democrats for anything either. Somehow they still find ways to blame us. :eyes: Even when we have no power. I hope it works out.

24. Perhaps our Dem leaders have been reading Sun Tzu |
|
All warfare is based on deception. Hence, when able to attack, we must seem unable; when using our forces, we must seem inactive; when we are near, we must make the enemy believe we are far away; when far away, we must make him believe we are near. Hold out baits to entice the enemy. Feign disorder, and crush him.
- Sun Tzu, the Art of War
Let's hope so. :hi:
