Rumsfeld wouldn't answer the question "are we winning" the war in Iraq

US says Iraq insurgency undiminished in past year

<snip>Asked during the briefing "are we winning" the war, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld did not directly respond.

"The United States and the coalition forces, in my personal view, will not be the thing that will defeat the insurgency," Rumsfeld said.

"So, therefore, winning or losing is not the issue for 'we,' in my view, in the traditional, conventional context of using the word 'winning' and 'losing' in a war. The people that are going to defeat that insurgency are going to be the Iraqis."

After Rumsfeld finished, Myers interjected, "I'm going to say this: I think we are winning, OK? I think we're definitely winning. I think we've been winning for some time."

10. Rummy didn't look too happy
I only watched for a few minutes but Rummy didn't seem to be getting his usual "jollies" from the attention today, IMHO.

12. Here's a gnarly little tidbit to chew on:
"Winning or losing is not the issue for 'we,' in my view, in the traditional conventional context of using the word winning and losing and of war," Rumsfeld said Tuesday at a news conference. "The people that are going to defeat that insurgency are going to be the Iraqis."

So, there you have it. If the unprovoked illegal invasion and occupation doesn't work out, ITS ALL THE FAULT OF THE IRAQIS

Original, they are not.

16. And it was the South Vietnamese who made us lose in Vietnam too
Wish I had a nickel for every time I heard some wack job say that over the past 30 years.

17. They never give it up, do they
I have one friend I've known for 25 years who managed to avoid the draft and didn't go to Viet Nam. To hear him tell it, we had it 'all won' and then the south vietnamese just gave it away. The fact that they were fighting for a puppet goverment that we set up doesn't sway his opinion at all.

Murka, right or wrong, love it or leave it, light at the end of the tunnel, mission accomplished....the string of cliche's just gets longer.

Rummy wants to blame the Iraqis for HIS failure. I thought for sure he'd blame the Clenis.
