The Right Wing is now trying to shut Air America Radio down
Right now on Scarborough Country, there's a big headline, "LIBERAL HATE SPEECH".

They have latched onto this bogus "threat against the president" and are now running hard with it.

and was underwhelmed. The bit was about social security and had gunshot sound effects, but wasn't directed at The President.

Nevertheless, the panties are a twistin in the temple.

Randi should hire some heat for awhile, methinks.

65. Stamps with Pres and Gun got FBI out to art shows....
asking for the names of the participating artists etc...

Today the Pres ran out of the White House because he thought there was an enemy plane or an enraged DEM heading for impact.

Or it was a set up to rationalize pulling anyone off the air who speaks the truth about their un-American activities.

I think we need to pay attention and protest in LARGE numbers for FREEDOM of SPEACH.

Randi is in Florida.

When I heard her use this excuse, I thought it was lame. She is solely responsible for the content of her show and she can't be making excuses like that. For one, it makes us look like a bunch of amateurs.

98. Yeah cause on other talk radio host takes phone calls.
LOL

Um that's the way it's done.

Obviously, it was done to try to damage AAR.

I did hear it, but missed the run up.

Right after the spiel she said she was underwhelmed--immediately showing distaste.

It is not amateurish for her to be taking calls or to tell the truth.

What we need to do is to get out to the mixed message boards and tell people what really happened.

This can be done anytime of day.

No need to wait for a big march or whatever.

And it's a heck of a lot more useful than just staying in here.

Come to DU for news, for helping keep each other informed, and for companionship, but we should be out changing the minds of the rest of America too.

39. G Gordon, the guy who advised a listener to shoot ATF agents...
...in the HEAD?

http://www.rotten.com/library/bio/misc/g-gordon-liddy/

The most infamous of these incidents was a 1994 show in which he advised a caller worried about jack-booted ATF agents kicking in his door: "They've got a big target on there: ATF. Don't shoot at that because they've got a vest on underneath that. Head shot, head shots." He also suggested that groin shots were a good backup plan.

63. Agreed
I only watched it because I heard Randi mention it today, and was surfing to it.

It was a pitifully unfair misrepresentation. I can only guess that people are increasing tuning out of all the extreme right-wing drivel that is on cable and network news, and into alternative sources like the Internet and Air America.

I used to not be able to walk in a room without turning on the television. Now I only watch a few shows that entertain me, and I've almost totally weaned myself from any of their right-wing biased corporate favoring news.

However, I did see Scarborough, by accident. Ack! Propaganda bullcrap!

I wouldn't take this too lightly. It seems a little too coordinated. May be a Rove campaign. If the ReichWing propaganda megaphones start singing in chorus it could divert attention from Delay, Gannon freely roaming the WhiteHouse, and the Final Report on NO WMD since 1992.

42. Good Ratings = Bad News For Hate Radio
Notice the timing...the latest Arbitron ratings for the largest markets came out the other day and AAR is doing well in most markets and continuing to grow. Remember when Joey and O'Reilly and Hannity said this network wouldn't last? That was a year ago and now it's not only still around but hurting some Xtian radio and a threat to the rest of hate radio.

Yesterday I posted how well AAR was doing in markets where there's an affiliate for "The Patriot"...the ultra right wing hate network owned by Salem that features Ingraham, Savage, Medved, Hewitt and many other venom spewers. Salem owns most of these stations and their ratings are 1/2 or less than that of the comparable AAR affiliate.

Not only does this mean advertisers will split those critical dollars (which are real hard to come by these days) with AAR (mostly Clear Channel) stations and not with Salem. Ouch #1

With their large investment on AAR, Clear Channel is going after Salem through the backdoor. Clear Channel has its own hate network with Rushbo and Hannity and would love to see Salem fade away and back into putting on the "dollar-a-hollar" preachers this company used to make it's money from. They're putting a squeeze on Salem and it's being felt. Not a good thing for a big contributor to the Repugnicans...and the religious right's favorites in specific. Ouch #2

Advertising revenues continue to sink for most radio stations and the huge debts many stations have incured over the years (most through speculation from their greedy owners like Antzinger & Salem) are coming home to roost. Over-inflated property values are starting to take their toll as the large debts these companies took on to build these huge radio empires aren't meeting the bills. Debts are growing and revenues aren't. A competitor that can eat into those revenues even further (and the associated license property values) has to be eliminated.

It's a great thing to hear all this shit about Randi and AAR. As the old axiom goes, "say good, say bad, just say". Hopefully this story gets A LOT of play...it attracts people to hear what Rhodes or AAR is all about...especially sheeple who weren't aware of the network.

I strongly suggest DU members who live in cities where there's an AAR station to do one of two things. First, is to call or write a letter (the letter is perfered) to the stations' General Manager or Program Director and thank them for carrying the network. Make sure you mention your sex, age and area you live in...so they see they're reaching the audience they want to. The letter also goes into the FCC public inspection file should their licenses be challenged.

Next, visit a LOCAL advertiser for the station and thank them for supporting both the station and AAR. A purchase, if you can swing it, will be triple bonus points, since the advertiser can see direct response from their advertising dollars and see how it's paying off. This will do a lot to keep AAR on in your market and help push Progressive radio as well.

Cheers

The republicans control all parts of our government and our media. And yet they've still got hate radio! It's unfreakinbelieviable. Let us have our one network for goodness sakes!!!

He didn't have any particulars, but said AAR was losing out on his MILLIONS of listeners from when he was in Chicago on WLS radio. It won't be long now! I can't wait because when Sirius loses AAR in a couple of months...I'll have withdrawals. :( I just have to have Randi and Malloy. I'm addicted. :7

60. Try 1530 From Cincinatti
Chicago's turned into a real mess for AAR...and sadly, it's some Democrats who are creating the biggest problems.

For now, you can hear AAR at night (or starting about 90 minutes before sunset) on 1530 from Cincinatti. It's a powerful signal that blasts in very nicely...also good to catch the Randi Rhodes replay at 6pm.

There's also a good public station at 90.1 in Champaign...they feature a lot of Pacifica programs as well as Democracy Now.

For right wing radio to succeed, the creeps running it had to stoop to the lowest levels of sleaze to put together their message.

Edited on Thu Apr-28-05 02:35 AM by Zinfandel

will only bring in many more listeners, as did Coulter's bullshit about Randi, and other right-wing lies about AAR only brings in more people who were not aware of AAR (I tell people about it everyday and they truly get excited to hear about it).

I hope these right-wing clowns continue, it's truly great, great publicity for AAR and AAR will continue to get stronger with more and more new listeners who are tuning in daily.

AAR is becoming a real powerhouse, I'd love to invest in AAR, its absolutely a sure thing.

The HBO special about AAR this month also helped. (And there will be more stories about AAR to come).

AAR will continue to keep growing and growing. There are tens of millions of progressives, liberals, moderates out there who would love to listen, they just have to become aware of AAR and thanks to the right-wing, who are indeed helping, immensely.

Even many republicans are now tuning in.

124. That Explains The Wingnut Push - And It's WRONG
Go on any random web site that has Repunks and Liberals mixing it up -- in the last 48 hours, the Wingnuts have started spreading this "AAR is dying" BS.

And it's B.S.

Folks, some questions: if AAR is so damn weak as the Wingnuts are now trying to claim, why on God's green earth would a company like XM go out and steal AAR from Sirius because Sirius stole NASCAR from XM? Why would Clear Channel go out and hire Jerry Springer to try and piggyback off AAR's success to the point where Jerry is now actually on AAR? Why would all of these stories -- going back to the NRO/L.A. TIMES hatchet job -- come out at the EXACT MOMENT the AAR movie comes out on HBO and the ratings which show, at the very least, AAR is tromping over O'Liely?

The answer to all of them is because AAR IS A SUCCESS, hence the Wingnut attacks.

And we should all just chill the Hell out. Considering how successful the Wingnuts have been lately, we should let them attack AAR.

It may make them #1 in the country.
