14. Actually, nobody really liked him
His successes were based on being less bad than whatever screwnut the GOP ran against him. Once in the governor's office he pissed off the Democratic legislature, pissed off liberals like me with his dreadful justice system policies (Schwarzenegger's are actually marginally better), and in general made no friends. That was his downful. It wasn't that he was hated; he just had no friends, no real constituency.

21. He played a major hand in the Enron / Calif energy debacle.
My gas bills doubled and Edison bills tripled.
And his recall was privately funded by a millionaire who wished to replace him. He lost and nother one snuck in.

how easy it is to install a failed governor in the WH.

This isn't turning out to be the cake walk that he envisioned.

9. If Maria has anything to say about it...
he probably won't run again. Seems she is unhappy with the lack of time he has for family. You'd think with her background she would understand how it works. Hey, whatever gets Arnie out of Sacramento!

16. BUT .....
I think Maria really enjoys being 1st Lady of California. She keeps saying to herself "I am Aunt Jackie! I am Aunt Jackie!".

12. Recall costs a lot of money. It's wiser for the Dems to keep chipping
away at Arnie's popularity and bury him in next years election.

15.  no, thank you....
This Californian STILL thinks the recall is a horrible substitute for the electoral process, and should be used only as a last resort to remove someone who's continued occupancy would do gross harm. It was not appropriate to use that mechanism to remove Davis, and it would be equally inappropriate to use it now.

What I hope people have learned from this experience is that using the recall-- with its associated gubernatorial popularity contest on an epic scale-- is even less likely to provide good leadership unless the replacement candidate is already experienced in state politics and well respected by most in the legislature. The recall is an AWFUL way to substitute an unknown quantity for a poor performer. The electoral process is far better-- if good candidates are available, the electoral process gives voters better opportunities for probing their positions and reviewing their records in public service. In a recall the focus is primarily on removing the current governor-- that alone argues that it should be used only when not doing so would be utterly disasterous.

Arnold is an ineffective governor. I doubt that he will be reelected, even if he decides to run again. He will have to run on his record if he does seek reelection-- that will be a far cry from the media frenzy that swept "the Terminator" into office after Davis was recalled.

17. Ironic isn't it?
The repugs used the recall to get a Democrat out of office and NOW their guy just might be toast in '06.

Sucks being them, huh?

18. I'm so not up for another recall, the costs alone are enough not to
do it. I don't think he's running again and i can't stand the thought of yet another media circus here and your absolutely right about the election process.
