ABC News - Bush SocSec: 31% approve / 64% disapprove
I haven't seen the numbers that bad. Usually they seem to give the best (for Bush) version of the overall approval/disapproval percentages, like 47% approve, which I don't even believe.

Call me cynical, but I'm guessing they're giving the low, low Social Security approval numbers so that after he gives his prime-time press conference they can show the biggest uptick possible. For instance if his SocSec approval goes from 31% to 39% they can call that a 25% increase in approval after he 'explained' his plan.

Bush is supposedly so committed to privatizing Social Security that he said he's going to be trying to sell it on his last day in office.

1. What would they be like if he didn't have his "Elmer Gantry" revival
meetings complete with Bush stool pigeons?

2. Isn't this only because he is taking on the tough issues
I laughed when his numbers started tanking and his people said they expected as much because he is taking on the difficult issues. Huh?

3. I kind of doubt that much of America will watch.

I mean, consider the Survivor and O.C. audience. They won't see it, and the viewers of those shows make up a huge percentage of Thursday night television audience.

ETA: Apparently, CBS has caved. That'll make for a pissed-off Survivor audience.

5. He is down to the 30% HardCore Fascist Support.
30% is about the extent of the Blind Faith locksteppers.

6. That's fantastic, because he's going to hang himself tonight
He's a belligerant brat, and he is going to try one more time to RAM THIS "PLAN" down America's throat. A giant lightbulb is going to switch on over America tonight and a whole new demographic is going to be enlightened that THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES.

7. That would be great
And I can't imagine him making any kind of convincing argument outside of his reading pre-scripted demagoguery, so it's a real possibility that this last-ditch effort will backfire.

The only thing I worry about is Dems snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

9. He is pre-ermpting prime-time on a weeknight

So he is already going to piss people off, at an hour when working people are exhausted and depressed and just want to have their routine, watch their show, and try to rest so they can get through tomorrow. (Do I sound bitter?) He is going to piss them off just by appearing on their screens. Then, he is going to lie about a subject that people are actually relatively informed about. This is a colossal blunder. I can't wait!
