The first story is about a 5 month old baby girl that was born with leukemia. While kept in the hospital, she contracted a case of Flesh Eating Bacteria. Now they want to use Bush's "Texas Futile Care Law" to let her die against the parents wishes.

In story two, the family of a brain-dead San Antonio man does not want him removed from life support, citing religious reasons.

Even when a child was taken into protective custody by Child Protective Services (when I worked there), medical decisions were always made by the parents. I can only remember one case in which the parents' choice was overridden - and that was so the child COULD receive lifesaving treatment.
