Any Podcasters on DU?

As in: do you download podcasts and listen to them? Or do you make your own?

I'm toying with the idea of starting my own series, but wanted to put out a feeler to see how much interest there might be in podcast interviews, rants, etc. from DUers like me.

I may have reasonable access to microphones and recording equipment, but I'm all new to this stuff, even though I've got a laptop. What's the minimum I need to pull off successful podcasting, including a place online to host the casts?

We could ask skinner if he would donate the bandwidth and people with the equipment could edit submissions into a 1-hour stream.

I love them. I got mine a little bit ago and love it. I don't have to carry all my cd's around when I go on a trip or something. :) I do listen to ipodders every once in a while. :)

2. I'd be interested!

I've listed to a number of podcasts, and enjoy listening to like minded (read: lefty folks like me) talk politics no matter the medium. God knows we can't get it on TV or Radio!

...that's at least enough interest to explore this a little further.

I'm guessing I can record podcast-length MP3s on my laptop provided I have the right software installed. Any recommendations?

It looks like the same type interface that Windows Movie Maker has, ie, you can make or import clips, put them together in a timeline, and then export to a MP3, including having it upload automatically to the website hosting it. Haven't tried it yet, but you can get a trial version from the URL above.

They also offer a Mixing software - http://www.mixmeister.com/ -Have also seen Mix software, AudioEdit and Adobe Audition
