My email to CNN
not that it will do any good but I wanted to tell them that their excessive coverage of non-news is not appreciated. For what it's worth:

The subject line was about the runaway bride story:

"Why are you reporting this so broadly? You are no doubt aware that there is a war going on in Iraq, escalating gas prices, a tanking economy, a president who is trying to squeeze the middle class by making health care unaffordable and destroy social security. Yet you waste time on this trivia, not to mention your excessive coverage of the Michael Jackson trial. Is CNN a real news organization or just an other "Inside Edition" fluff and puff waste of the airwaves?

The sad part is, CNN used to be good until it decided to crawl in the gutter and report non-news. It's okay, we can take the real news."

1. Not nice, to "disturb their beautiful minds" (in the broadest sense of the
word). I think it's great just to haul off and nail them on this every now and then. Since I watch in occasional 30 second segments, I can't bitch about their particulars but I know they're not covering anything. And what's with this GA chick that bugged out on her wedding day? Every one of these missing children/women that get the huge coverage are white? What a news source. Fuck CNN and Isacson and AOL/Time-Warner, and Isacson's successor, and the chicken shit chairman of AOL/Time-Warner (I know they dropped the AOL but so what).

How about this for a message to CNN: "It's no wonder a bunch of wiz kids from Northern Virginia suckered you in to a stock deal that worked for them but screwed you. Time-Warner is too stupid to even know what it takes to run a real news organization. Too bad suckers, you got screwed by AOL."

2. I think a better approach than writing to CNN. . .
is to write your cable carrier and ask them to remove CNN, MSNBC, Fox, etc. from the basic package. Tell them you'd rather have more cartoon channels, or another cooking channel, or just signaless fuzz, than to have to program your clicker to pass over a useless media circus. Threaten to begin looking into satellite TV, or whatever other options might be available in your area.

Maybe if more people reject the whole concept of faux news the cable news networks may begin to pay notice. A cable station that's lost a viewer can shrug and move on. When they get dropped by a cable carrier, they've got a lot of explaining to do to their investors and advertisers.

She has enough problems!! I think the media wants payback-make her suffer more than she allready is suffering/feeling bad.

3. Oh God, are they still on that stupid story?
Edited on Sun May-01-05 02:47 AM by Up2Late
It's bad enough that I had to hear about it all week on the local Radio news.

Great E-mail, I do that every so often. CNN SUCKS so bad now. They claim do be going for the "Younger Audience," but most of them are either getting "stoned" or out at the bars, hoping to get laid.

I hate to be be critical or judgmental, but what is up with this girl? She looks and acts like she's on (or needs to be) some sort of drugs. I ran across these today at Foxnews .com

5. You're right
My God, she looks wired out of her skull. Too much caffeine? I don't know what it is, but she looks wide awake...too wide awake, come to think about it.

6. CNN has sucked since the Reagan era
Sure, it LOOKED more like news back then, and less like gossipy tabloid tripe, but they were nothing more than slick propaganda for Reagan (especially SDI - CNN *loved* SDI), the first Bush and the first Gulf War, and their salacious enabling of Ken Starr's inquisition.

Those were just a few of their many crimes. You are right that your email won't do any good, but that's because it is 20 years too late (and it would have been by snail mail then), not because of any recent downtrend.

I blocked ALL cable news from my box the day after Stolen Election II last November. I have been happier ever since, and much more informed actually. I urge everyone reading this to do the same. You will thank yourself every day.

8. Zomby-you missed their "ticker" about...
the Willie Nelson story. It said "Texas Republicans block bill to have highway named for Willie Nelson due to his ties to drinking, drugs and Democrats." Is that the flip-side to "God, guns and gays"?
Pissed me off no end!

Politics and the media have been hijacked by a cabal of Reagan babies (those born in or very young in the '80's) who have a world-view that stops at the end of their nose and haven't had a moment of struggle or want in their lives!

Happy Birthday Mother Jones!!!

Have some Zombycoffee on me, my friend!

10. They're probably still mad at him for his Christmas 2003 song...
... "What ever happened to 'Peace on Earth'?"

Most of the MSM blacked it out, and the RW Hate Machine blasted it a few days after it was released on the Internet.

14. Thanks for the coffee Maccagirl!
Very astute! The Reagan babies are out of college now, and infesting the workforce and our cultural life with their limited world views and narcissistic disorders.

As for Willie, he probably shrugged that off due to his own modesty (he would rather the working people get a break in life, than drive down a highway named after him). He'll have the last laugh. :-)

7. Here's my email to CNN:
Just sent this to them:

You call yourself a "News Organization"? I have been a loyal CNN viewer since CNN first aired...My how the times and your organization have changed. It used to be that I could turn to CNN and count on getting News from around the World faster than anywhere and feel that it was the best and most informative on the issues. Starting last year, particularly around the election campaign, I saw disturbing changes and clear bias in the "approach" CNN started to take in their news coverage, particularly re. politics. I started to watch CNN less as a result. Then, last month with the "Schiavo Circus" and the wall to wall coverage of the Pope (I started thinking CNN was the acronym for Catholic News Network), I started to not even turn the TV on anymore. This weekend I went on a trip out of town and turned the TV in the hotel on to CNN (as I usually do). Instead of getting REAL News such as reports about the deaths of 10 soldiers in Iraq, the lousy economy, soaring gas prices etc., I get to hear wall to wall coverage about the "Runaway Bride". Are you kidding me? CNN is no longer a news organization, you are a joke. I can't even believe that you would be dedicating even 5 minutes yet alone wall to wall coverage about a woman who clearly has some issues and meanwhile wasted important and precious law enforcement resources trying to find her. The fact that this story even warrants your continuing coverage and also has placement on the front page of your website over other stories (such as our soldiers dying) is DISGUSTING! After as many years as you have been on the air, I am going from being a long time loyal viewer to someone who won't even bother to turn to your channel anymore. Don't know who your trying to "reach" as an audience, but your losing your loyal longtime viewers...doesn't seem to be a good strategy...atleast not for longtime corporate success....tell your advertisers that a longtime viewer in a high income bracket w/kids who spends lots of money doesn't want to watch you anymore....Wanna bet my profile spends more money with your advertisers than the mindless morons that would be the only people interested in watching your Runaway Bride coverage?

11. I tuned in to CNN Headline News for the first time in months
Guess what they were talking about as one of their lead stories?

And this story is still on Yahoo's front page, where it's been for the last two days.

12. I wonder why they do it?
Do these stories really up their ratings? Are average Jane and Joe America really interested in this? I can't believe they are.

15. I can believe it!
It's hard to swallow, but they do. We don't associate with these idiots on a day-to-day basis, and it makes conceiving as such so difficult.

But allow yourself to interact with the 'salt of the earth' once in a while, and you will see they are abysmally dumb and scared. They suck in stories like this as if they were a cocaine lozenge. Invariably, these are the fuckwads with "Viva Bush!" stickers on their sad vehicles. Being informed is anathema to their world view. Ignorance is not only bliss, it's their morphine drip.
