In our local city elections, there are four people running for mayor, and six for at-large councilman. Not a single one is a democrat.
It was either vote R in the election, or have no say in the city government -- since the R nomminee will be the winner of the general election.
This is in a city of 35,000 in Mississippi, with the 3rd highest sales tax revenue in the state. This is a city which didn't even have a R candidate until 20 years ago.
This is sad, that our party is in such a state of disaster that we can't even get local candidates for local issues.

that I am not active in our party at the local level. I know of plenty of movers and shakers, and if the right candidate had declared they would have gotten the financial support (about 100k) needed to challenge, and possibly win.
I really don't think it matters so much in these local elections; however, where are our candidates for state legislature and senate, and eventually even house of rep.
As the largest city in our congressional district, it is sad we don't have a single D who is interested in being mayor (or at least interested enough to qualify and campaign).

6. Getting different opinions out |

That's why it matters, at every level. I thought our local Dems had it under control, they've been talking about grassroots and building the local party, for months now. Imagine my shock when I got my ballot and not one of our school board members were challeneged, and I know at least 2 of the 4 are Republicans. I would have run in a heart beat. And we're in a purple city in a blue county in a blue state. Grrr. You're not alone.

2. Why didn't you run? :) |

I know, I know, easier said then done. And maybe you would lose anyway, but it would still be cool to say you tried to beat them :)

in the 2002 Maryland Governor's race. I really felt I had no choice, as Kathleen Kennedy Townsend's only record to draw from was from Glendening, and he sucked. I voted for the candidate, or rather against the Democratic candidate.
As far as local politics go, the MD Dems don't know what the hell they're doing.

help build a progressive "innerstructure". Understand your conundrum at finding no D on the ballot. Here's hoping your next local election has some local D involvement. Hang in there.
