US Rep Pearce (R-NM) plagiarized column, press sec takes the fall
Congressman's Column Plagiarized Material, So His Spokesman Quits

NEW YORK The press secretary for Republican Rep. Steve Pearce of New Mexico has resigned after admitting he plagiarized material in a newspaper column published under the congressman's name.
...
"What I did was wrong," Burns said Wednesday. "It was a colossal error in judgment. Rather than stay on and embarrass the congressman, I am leaving."

Pearce's column wasn't his

A letter to the editor in Wednesday's El Defensor Chieftain contends that portions of a recent column we ran from U.S. Rep. Steve Pearce contained passages that were similar to a column by Charli Coon on the Heritage Foundation Web site.

We went to the Web site to check it out and found that our letter writer was being generous. The congressman's column was almost a word-for-word repeat of Coon's column.

It was published under Pearce's name but he wouldn't even comment for the E&P article.

2. Those blasted internets.
It makes it so easy for all the evil libruls to research right wing hypocrites. As Tom Delay would say, it's outrageous. Too bad the congressman didn't resign. Would it have been OK if he had signed his name to something his press secretary actually did write?
