Interview with the Coulter Heckler
I'm sure you've all heard about Ajai Raj, the guy who was arrested for heckling Ann Coulter in Texas. Well I just posted an interview I conducted with him on my blog. Enjoy:

1. slackdude, Great Interview
I've always wondered how my life would have been different if I'd taken an appointment to be a Senate Page when I was in HS. Wow! Now I know, I would have been around a bunch of interns who just rocked!

Great interview! This guy sounds very bright and I sincerely hope they don't give him any jail time. If it was Austin, he should be OK.

Welcome to DU.

4. Thanks!
I haven't been around DU since before the election (too depressed about the results), but I came back just for this since I knew DUers would appreciate it.

He claims in his hatemail that he personally broke the nose of a protester. Should we forward this post to the Tucson police?

34. Their info is now up!
Thanks for the detective work. I forwarded this stuff to Ajai and posted their info on my blog and on the hatemail page! I also turned all of their email adresses to mailto links to make it easier for folks to reach out and touch them.

24. this is the one that really disturbed me
"america is tired of you and your progressive, left wing, liberal crap. it's just a matter of time until america gets it's act together and puts an end to scum like you."

As there are some of the people who think like this and it is just a matter of time before they act on it.

30. I wouldn't worry
Based on the "intelligent grammar", probably some 14-year-old using mommy's computer. This "revolution" against our side is not happening- 49% of citizens who voted in the last Presidential election agreed with our side and what we had to say. That's still a huge amount of people- if we were outnumbered 80-20%, then yeah, maybe we should start worrying, but it's not even close to that point yet (and I doubt it ever will be). Are there looneys on the other side? Absolutely, we all know that. No matter how much they deny it and claim that "we're all just good old church-going people", we know the truth. I guess what I'm saying is- watch, but don't fear.

32. It's not about fear
As the only thing fear will do is debilitate, but more about accurate threat assessment. In saying the religious right is not the majority is a given, the moral majority is the majority that isn't.

However, that doesn't accurately asses the threat they pose. While this band of religious zealots is the minority they still the same are a very well organized, established, funded, effective, and most important, dedicated, group. They have been planning this out for the last 30 - 40 years and at this point have a huge propaganda network and their hooks in all the right places. To state that our government is not currently largely controlled by zealots, is to deny realty.

Democrat's have been doing it for years as they have always scoffed at any notion that the religious right could ever amount to any type of a formidable political force, and fantasies of such a thing ever happening was just reactive paranoid thinking. Well guess what, it has happened and the Democrat's never saw it coming. The only question to be answered now is, are they in deep enough that they can be countered in any kind of a time frame shorter than 20 years.

Keep in mind that it was not the majority that wanted independence from England, but a well organized minority with a well articulated position.

"if we were outnumbered 80-20%,"

If we were actually outnumbered 80 - 20% it would be game over.

6. Right wing hatemail is the best!
The stuff they come up with, combined with their incredible grasp of stereotypes and misinformation and their colorful use of derogatory terms makes them so entertaining.

It would figure that if somebody would get arrested and roughed up for saying a four letter word to a right winger, it would be in Texas.

11. I agree
In less than a minute, my eyes were freakin' out. I don't know if it's color, font, or a combination, but I literally can't read it.

And I'm gonna copy it to Work before I decide if it's worth reading? Not likely. You need to think through the needs of your "consumers" before you toss out such condescending advise.

It looks fine to me, so if others have a hard time reading it, I need to know what to do to make it more readable. Would larger text do the trick? Make it black? I don't mean to be condescending at all. It's just that in the three years I've been running that blog, this is the first time I've heard anything like this. Calling it horrid is not exactly constructive criticism.

But, imo, standard black text on a white or light-gray background does the job.

I made the text black and upped the size by 1 pixel. Is it more readable for those having trouble with it?

18. The font size is okay for me.
Edited on Tue May-10-05 12:23 PM by yella_dawg
It may be the font style or color. I honestly can't say for sure. The text begins to "shiver" and "crawl" after just a few seconds. I suspect it is a matter of color.

Black on white is good. White on blue is better optically, but is "ugly" to some people. The problem could be something as innocuous as border colors or conflict with side panel graphics. There are a lot of shades of blue on the page. I don't know a lot about optical response, but a blue-black combination can cause weird optical effects.

21. The hate mails are hilarious.
I liked this line in particular:

"It is sad that you are so diluted that you actually believe that you accomplished something by your vulgar tirade."

Diluted?? What a moran.

I think we should take up a DU collection and buy Ajai an Ann Coulter doll. It would probably last about as long as the one they gave Keith Olbermann but it would still be good for a laugh.
